Billy Conn vs Archie Moore

Much the same. Archie could put in that suprise right hand from the cross arm on anyone including Billy and he was perhaps the best finisher of them all. Going to the cards as you said could go either way especially if Billy avoided trading in close.

By what reasoning would Archie Moore ko Billy Conn, when a bigger harder punching Joe Louis, just managed to catch Conn in the 13th round to ko Billy.? Archie Moore was a great fighter, but during Louis's prime NO ONE at that time would think of matching Archie Moore with Joe Louis. No one. I believe that a prime Billy Conn ,along with Ezzard Charles, were the two best LH s since a rising Gene Tunney...Billy was as tough a fighter
since Harry Greb, who was in a class by himself.
Billy Conn by 15 round decision over Archie Moore, using his foot and handspeed...

 

Very close one. Conn's speed may carry him to a split decision.

I would take Moore....But really Tommy Loughran beats them both!

 

Tommy Loughran fought in a tough, tough era. No doubt. But what does Tommy have, to hurt and keep the fiery Billy Conn off him ? Tommy was a one-handed fighter, whilst Conn hit faster with a bit more power with his two handed flurries...

 

If Tommy can hold his own (and according to some reports WON), against Tunney I think he will be OK in these fights as well. Tommy was a defensive wiz as you already know Burt, and while he was feather fisted, he was in reality and was still amongst the best...I think hypothetically he is also among the best. If Tommy's only fight plan was to hurt people (as you implied) he would not have fared as well as he did.

No. Conns to smart for that. As for Moore finishing, well, there wouldn't be anything to finish. Conn UD 15.

Loughran was the greater fighter. Much better legs, better jab, better defense. Loughran was rated as a top 5 all timer...Conn being rated highly is more of a recent thought.

 

There was a lightheavyweight fighter of yesterday named Jack Delaney who is never mentioned today but could bang and box. So hard a right hand puncher was Delaney, he flattened Tiger Flowers THREE times in TWO bouts...Ovila Chapdelaine by name!
