Anyone who say different is delutional. I watched ESPN first take earlier, and Skip Bayless said Floyd is not a ATG because he don't have KO power. WTF is Bayless talking about. When do a fighter have to have KO power to be great? Floyd have accomplished more in this sport with his skill alone, more then Ali, Marciano, Foreman, SRR, SRL, Hearns, Louis, L. Lewis, Jones jr etc. These guys are consider power punchers. (Well Ali wasn't, but he had ok power) as well as ATG. Yet Floyd has the ability and skill to beat anyone of these guys if he were in there era or weight class with out KO power. He is the best of this era which earns him a spot on the ATG list.
Willie Pep had a 26% KO percentage and is widely considered a top 10 P4P ATG. SKip doesn't know his boxing. And you have to factor in that FLoyd really only started to lose his "KO power" once he started going up about 4 weight classes from where he started. If he decided to stay at LW-JWW, he'd be knocking guys out left and right from the accumulation of his accurate punches. But a guy who walks around normally at 152-155 lbs should be fighting at JWW, not WW or JMW. He does it for legacy and financial purposes as the bigger names are at WW and JMW. SO it makes sense that he doesn't have KO power since he's fighting at an unnatural weight division for himself.
As soon as you put Skip Bayless in the same sentence as "boxing" I knew some bull**** was going to follow. Seriously, don't listen to Skip. The fact ESPN even lets that guy talk about boxing is disgusting. Skip "don't know **** about baxing..." Regarding the poster who brought up Willie Pep: Sad part is, Skip probably doesn't even know who that is.
A lot of those general sports commentators DKSAB. I don't follow any other sports, but it makes me question if they know anything about basketball/football etc.
"Floyd is not a ATG because he don't have KO power" lol.. Even a forum **** or troll wouldn't say this bs.
He has been for years. Floyd is easily the best technical boxer in his generation. And his resume is very good.
Floyd is an ATG and you're right in that he doesn't need to have a ridiculous KO ratio for that honor, he's there, probably top 35 somewhere. That said, when you say he's accomplished more than some of the elite ATGs like Ali, SRR, SRL, etc, that's the primary issue with Floyd. He has never pushed himself to face the best competition of his own era, just like he hasn't pushed himself to get a higher KO ratio when he easily could. Hence he will never reach the heights of those elite ATGs mentioned above.
