Here we go with that stupid armour piercing bullet BS again. Just because a punch may have the same concussive split second force as a bullet, doesn't mean it will have the same effect. That's not how physics work! Marciano also wasn't the hardest puncher ever. Not by a long shot. Foreman punches harder than him. Easily. You're stupidity here is just mind-boggling. Foreman would probably be laughing at Marciano as soon as he steps into the ring.
The George Foreman who could apply a game plan did not really exist. Young George was foolhardy, over exerting himself in world title fights, banking entirely on sheer power and gassing out too soon. Old George had the pace but was too slow and could not keep anyone away. If you start to add the best versions of both carnations it is a fantasy fighter that never was. Rocky would be outsized but no more so than he was against joe Louis who in his comeback was quite a big man. Marciano also hit a great deal harder (with two hands) than jimmy young and ALi did after 5 rounds and harder than Lyle who put George down early. Nobody missed George with a punch and neither would Rocky. This is a very tricky fight for George who would most likely get very frustrated early on trying to tee off on Rocky's crouching, smothering awkwardness and getting very, very tired and vulnerable the later the fight lasts.
The Louis analogy is silly, Louis was washed up he had only the semblance of a jab left, and did not attempt right crosses against Rocky because his reflexes were shot. Louis's best weight was around 200lbs,Foreman's about 220lbs.George was appreciably bigger in all departments that Louis . Marciano never defended his ttile against a 200lbs plus opponent , except for ****ell who, owing to glandular fever put on a lot of surplus .****ell was 5 inches shorter than Foreman.
It is not that silly, I was using it as an example of a Foreman sized rated fighter to demonstrate that the size dissadvantage in itself was no obsticle for Marciano. The notion that any man bigger than Marciano would throw him around like a rag doll, that he could not reach a taller mans chin, that he could not back up a heavier man needs to be dispelled. Marciano was strong enough and good enough to beat much bigger world class men than himself.
Anyone who saw what Boone Kirkman was able to do to Foreman would understand exactly how Marciano would handle this engagement. Three words. Burst blood vessels.
I've already showed that Louis was not Foreman sized.Nor at his age was he anywhere as strong as he had been when he picked up Carnera and moved him around.Louis gave ground to Marciano, when did you see him do that previously? Marciano was very strong for his size, but he never proved that he "could beat much bigger world class men than himself" , because he never faced them. No one has said ,"bigger men would throw him around like a rag doll". The problem for Marciano was that he was not hard to hit, neither was he quick on his feet.We don't know how he would weather being hit coming in by a 225lbs banger like Foreman, and it seems very probable to me that he would be hit ,and hit regularly before he could get inside and inflict his own damage.Marciano would be conceding about 40lbs to Foreman, it is conceivable that once inside he would simply be tied up and pushed back out to Foreman's optimum range as Frazier was. Rocky might be able to absorb Foreman's punches and come on as the big guy begins to gas, but Rocky was susceptible to facial damage and Foreman hit like a truck, its highly likely that Marciano would be cut and bleeding even if he managed to stay erect. Simply put I think all the plusses are with George and all the minuses are with Rocky.
Rocky was hittable, and George had a great chin. Also a great jab. Did the Rock ever feel power like George? I don't know if he'd do any better than Smoke.
Joe Louis was 213 and three quarter pounds when he fought Marciano. George Foreman weighed 217 and a half pounds when he beat Joe Frazier. Foreman was 6'3 and Joe Louis 6'2'. I don't see how that is not comparable in size? Joe Louis was beating more rated heavyweights at the time he fought Rocky than any of FOremans pre championship opponents so I don't see how joe is not relevant as a world class big heavyweight. Foreman was easier to hit than Marciano, nobody missed him, as a champion he was inexperienced, bad tempered, frustrated and over exerted himself. Marciano did not get hit as often as Foreman or Frazier. Rocky was awkward.
Louis was 6'1.5" best weight around 200lbs,he was winning fights by decision because his reflexes were shot. Marciano was in danger of being stopped by Simmons, and Charles . dropped by a 37 year old, and a 39 years old light heavy. Sending him in with Foreman would be cruelty.
At 213 Joe Louis was beating more world rated contenders during his comeback than George Chuvalo was at the time Foreman beat him. Bivins, Savold and Brion were impressive wins for anyone. He was still knocking guys over. Was active and winning. Comeback Louis earned his ranking. If a 213lb 6'2" rated heavyweight is not "a 200lb world class heavyweight" I don't know what is! just like anyone else Foreman would have found Marciano awkward to nail clean. Ted Gullick with Marcianos power would have knocked out George. Foreman was wide open to lead right hands. You can only walk through punches some of the time. Marciano hit harder than Ali, Jimmy Young and Ron Lyle with two hands. You have to give Marciano a chance for that alone. Add, the inexperience of George, the open defence of George the stamina issues of george (that were all very real) and marciano looks a very difficult fight for Foreman what ever way you look at it.
Was he still world class? Yes. Was he over 210lb? Yes. Was he within an inch or so of George Foreman in height? Yes. Actualy Louis decked Savold and Omelio Agramante as well as ANdy walker. Years later Agramante went the full 10 against Cleveland big cat Williams without going over. Louis could still punch when he fought Rocky.
