vs De la Hoya?

Lets be real, that was mostly all de la hoya, just like last Saturday was mostly all Mayweather.

It is just funny how people downplay Canelo's part and praise the Mayweather vs. De la Hoya fight record breaking numbers as being Mayweathers record. A bit of a contradiction, ain't it?

May was in Canelo's position for the de la hoya fight.

 

De la Hoya best PPV before Floyd= 1.4 mil
De la Hoya vs. Floyd=2.5 mil

Of course Oscar was the main draw, but Floyd certainly bought a lot of buys to the table as well. The "Money" persona, good guy/bad guy angle, and 24/7 helped a great deal as well.

 

It was the combination of the 2. It's not as simple as Floyd's fanbase + Oscar's fanbase = 2.4 million.

The combination of the 2 created that hype and buzz from Oscar's star power to Floyd's brashness and ranking.

Now for this fight, Floyd is a bigger star, but the casuals got intrigued at him fighting a big threat in Canelo and Canelo brought in a big fanbase.

 

I can take this answer.

But the bottom line is that Mayweather from 2007 does not break records or come even close to it, without De la Hoya.

 

I don't think its as clear cut. I would like to see numbers for Mayweathers ppv before de la hoya. I am willing to say they are not impressive at all.
