Dont give a hoot who criticizes, this is how I scored the Mayweather-Canelo fight and just wanted to post my thoughts round by round. Round 1 Both landed some. More of a feelout round I generally in most cases score even. Round even. Round 2 Both feinting early and both catching mainly gloves. Canelo scores well to the body with right hands at about the 1 minute mark of the round. Both scored with jabs, but most of the punches by both fighters did'nt find the mark. The leverage of which Canelo used to throw his shots to the body and a few hooks that landed as upposed to Mayweather's pushed jab wins Canelo the round. Round Canelo! Round 3 Again nothing of note happening through the first couple of minutes of the round, if anything Canelo edges it slightly with his commitment to throw was better leverage. Really more of an even round through the first two minutes. Mayweather with minute to go scores with the best punches of the fight for him, right hand leads that caught Canelo flush. Later in the round Mayweather lands with clean jabs, a little more mustard on them than in previous rounds. Canelo lands with a couple of decent counters the last minute, but not enough to edge the sequence where Mayweather landed clean and hard earlier in the round with the right hand leads. Close enough round, but it goes to Mayweather on my card. Round Mayweather. Round 4 Though Canelo lands a few of his own, Mayweather for the first time in the fight starts to sit down and throw with leverage with both the jab which has snap, and the right hand which had hurt intentions. Mayweather is looking alot more comfortable now than Canelo. Round Mayweather. Round 5 Mayweather looking more comfortable, but again, not alot to write home about as far as effective connects by both fighters. Most of the punches are being picked off by the gloves of both fighters. Mayweather wins the round simply because he scored with a few more cleaner jabs and a couple of right hands. I just dont see where people like to call a round like this domination when just 2 or 3 so so rights are the difference in the round. I'll note that as I'm watching round 5, its very apparent that Canelo needs to push the fight more and attempt to take Mayweather to the ropes with aggresiveness. Canelo is staying pat trying to trade jabs with Mayweather. Round Mayweather. Round 6 Best round of the fight so far for Mayweather. He was aggressive and worked well to both the body and head of Canelo. Mayweather really zoned in to counter with power. I'm a bit miffed as to why with Mayweather willing to trade, Canelo at this point just does'nt body up and start to use his body to push Mayweather to the ropes. You know, get a little more aggressive with Mayweather all of a sudden becoming aggressive. Canelo however is content to stay in boxing mode. Round Mayweather. Round 7 More of the same as round 6. Mayweather picking him apart with accurate well timed punches. Canelo still stuck in boxing mode when he should be turning up his aggresiveness. Round Mayweather. Round 8 Canelo for the first time in the fight turns the aggessiveness up. He works Mayweathers body well and where mayweather in the previous several rounds was aggressive, he starts to get on his bicycle with Canelo coming after him. Mayweather lands some clean counters the last minute of the round, but not enough to offset the work Canelo put out going to the body and scoring a few to the head. Mayweather made the round close at the end, but the round goes...... Round Canelo. Round 9 FIrst minute and a hald Canelo is active with the jab and is pumping it to the body and coming up to the head occasionally. Not all are getting in, but enough are as Mayweather is relatively inactive during this time. Mayweather lands a flush right hand with a little over a minute to go, the telling blow of the round, not nearly enough to offset what Canelo had done to that point, but I'm sure to many that right hand by Mayweather turns the round to him at that point. (ridiculous) The last minute of the round is fought on even terms with Canelo being the aggressor. Round Canelo Round 10 First minute goes about even. I sense Canelo is tiring as he stalls himself on the ropes a minute into the round and Mayweather does'nt let him rest. He takes advantage and lets go of combinations as Canelo rests on the ropes Good solid work from Mayweather. Mayweather ends the last minute of the round pumping the jab and controlling the action with it to rounds end. Round Mayweather Round 11 Canelo starts the round aggressive to the body and is winning the first minute of the round. Mayweather exhibits a jabfest the 2nd minute of the round while Canelo does virtually zero. Canelo resumes aggressiveness to the body past the 2 minute mark. Its brief for about 20 seconds though. Mayweather ends the last 40 seconds in pose mode, looking the part of a winner, landing a few jabs but barely doing anything. A real hard round for me to score. Could go either way or even Usually I'll score such a round to the aggressor which was Canelo. Canelo did land the hardest blows of the round, body shots. Round Canelo. Round 12 Mayweather runs. Canelo chases. Connects are about even and actually Canelo lands the few telling blows of the round. Regardless of those blows, Mayweather gave away the round by outright avoiding boxing related exchanges, his mindset likely in mode that he's way ahead anyways. Canelo wins the round by default. Round Canelo I scored it 6-5-1 for Mayweather and definitely am fine with 6-4-2 or 7-4-1 depending on the scoring of the 11th round which was a hard score for me. I stand by my initial score of round 11 though as I did see that round live and scored for Canelo. 115-114 is my score. You know, even though I have it that close in points, I feel Mayweather won his rounds much more clearly and proved to me he's the better fighter. Much the better fighter when you take into account he was fighting a very good fighter that had 15 pounds on him. One thing about Mayweather, he goes into coast mode and plays to much defense when he's pressured. He enjoys the defense and forgets about making sure he does enough offensively beside pumping a get away from me jab. He went into this same type of fight mode against DLH and though I felt he was clearly superior boxingwise to DLH, my scorecard ended up a draw in that DLH fight, and I have a dislike for DLH. I'll sum it up by saying though close on my card pointwise, I thought Mayweather proved he was the better fighter. Much the better fighter considering Canelo is a bonafide juniormiddleweight.
I thought it was closer than what people had on scoring, not the overall fight. I personally scored it 8-4 for Mayweather after giving some of the early rounds to Canelo.
You know, honestly I kind of feel for judge Ross. The difference in my scorecard and hers is that she gave round 3 to Canelo. She scored the Bradley-Pacquiao fight for Bradley while most called it pure robbery. I scored that Bradley fight close 7-5 for Pacquiao. I thought both those fights, Mayweather and Pacquiao took the late rounds for granted. For Pacquiao it ended up costing him the fight. Potentially it could have cost Mayweather the fight.
I gotta agree. We can't base the rounds on how 'easy' it looks for Floyd, we have to score it based on what he does. Too much coasting Floyd. I want to see the Floyd that fights every moment of every fight ya know 140 and down. Or at least like he fought against Ortiz or Ricky Hatton.
You are obviously from the CJ Ross school of judging fights. I am still trying to work out whether she had to much to drink before the fight, high on something lethal, incompetent or plain corrupt.
Whoever judges quantity over quality is a ****ing moron. Canelo hit so much glove, arm and air in that fight, it wasn't even convincing. Floyd landed 40-50% of his shots, and many times stunned Canelo. It was a CLEAR 8-4/9-3 fight.
Canelo was substantially out-landed in almost every round in the fight. There is noway you give him more than a few rounds if you really pay attention to the action. Floyd controlled him with the jab and solid footwork all night.
