Sugar Ray Robinson V THomas Hearns AT Light Heavyweight

I believe that Hearns has a greater chance of beating Robinson at Light Heavy than he did at the lighter weights they fought at

Robinson though he looked great for most of the maxim fight didnt show that he had the same KO power at that weight.

Though Hearns was on decline during his Light Heavy days, he still seemed to carry the power and speed up to this weight

At Middle and Welter I can see Hearns outboxing Robinsons but ray rallies late and stop hearns (like leoanrd in 1981)

 

I don't see how Hearns can lose here, esp. if he's got that devastating right hand and range.

 

I agree. Robinson wins this at welterweight - middleweight,but Hearns takes it at 175 lbs.

 

Hearns would win at 175. He held the weight or proved to hold it better than Robinson did.

 

Robvinson would smash Hearns at any weight imo.

A real bad matchup for Tommy.Robinson forces things onto you offensively far too much and has the range to be competitive on the outside while waiting to unload. he would get to Hearns within six at any weight in an all-time great shootout.

once Robinson has him hurt, i doubt Tommy is getting off the hook.

all words and no proof. Robinson never fought a guy as great as Hearns who had that right hand and jab and had it all together like that 6-1 1/2 and 78 inch reach. I always saw Hearns stopping Robinson who wouldn't know what hit him. Hearns was always better than Lamotta and the other greats Robinson fought!!!!!!! I think this is a really bad matchup for Robinson. He fought before the really finesse greats like Leonard/Hearns/Benitez. They might have been big trouble for him. and don't mention the other guys Robinson fought as though they were as great as those guy in finesse.

I think Robbie defeats Tommy at any weight, but this is the weight that The Hitman stands the best chance of actually pulling it off.

 

Hearns has a lot of stylistic advantages in any weight they fought at.
He'd definitely pummel SRR, I think SRR needs a Leonard bomb to win this one. Just a bad, bad matchup for somebody who was prone to getting cracked.

He was prone to getting cracked, yes. So was Hearns, but he couldn't take a punch as well as Robinson. Great fight, though. Robinson late tko, imo.

 

Tommy would beat Ray, but it would always be a fight!
