Floyd rarely pushes for a knockout for the simple reason that it is a non-optimal gameplan. He's never behind on the cards past the third round, so a knockout is never necessary. Having said that, he never slows down a-la Oscay vs Tito, either. He boxes until the final bell.

And let's not forget the shot he put on the chin of Victor Ortiz. Extenuating circumstances I will concede, but someone who "can't punch for ****", just doesn't knock someone out with a straight right like that.

If 2 lbs "wouldn't have made any difference what so ever", then why did Floyd need a 152 lb catchweight? If it made no difference, then why didn't Floyd just fight Canelo at 154 so there would be no excuses??

 

Canelo likes to roll punches off his face. It's never a good look because 1 he's still getting hit, and 2 the impact looks Exaggerated. So to the judges and publics eyes he just ate a huge punch even tho he took most of the impact out by rolling with it. It's still a scoring punch that looks more devastating and could be the difference in a close round. He needs to learn to block and slip punches, not just eat and roll with them.

He actually slipped many punches against Trout and made him miss with upper body movement and blocking. Against Floyd, he was weight drained and wasn't at his best, but still did enough to get a Majority Decision. That's how good Canelo is.

 

Once he knew he was up on the score cards canelo focuse on he's defense against trout, even made trout look silly at times. But I wouldn't keep pushing the weight drained point, canelo has never been a high output type fighter. He's more of fight in short stints of the round, he explodes takes a break repeat. I can't recall him working for a full 3 min of any round with trout. He also faded a down the stretch when he faced trout.

Canelo vs may canelo seemed in his best shape ever. Not once did he look visibly tired or fade at any point. Yes he got frustrated because he just couldn't catch Floyd, he couldn't get off the way he wanted to. That's not because he was weight drained, it because Floyd was the much faster better boxing IQ vet. Floyd gave the kid different looks all night and canelo just never seemed to figure Floyd out.

 

Interesting how all these guys keep 'rolling' with Mayweather straight hands the exact same way.

So considering off his own back he came in at 153 for Trout, I'm sure that 1 whole extra pound really ****ed him up... even though he's not moaned once about the weight.

 

If he was feather fisted he wouldn't be able to outbox people.. especially naturally bigger guys, they'd just walk right through him. Except, they don't.

He doesn't have huge power, but he has enough pop to gain the respect of the guys he gets in there with.
