Remember the press conference between Ali and Bonavena, when Oscar became proabably the only man to beat Muhammad at his own game? Bonavena: Why you no go to the army? (Ali looks at Bonavena with disdain) Bonavena: You big chicken. Bonavena: Chicken! You big chicken! (Makes "ckicken" sounds) Chicken! (After a few moments of silence) Ali: Did you cut your hair? I'll cut your hair. (Oscar had landed in trouble with Argentian boxing authorities about his long hair) Bonavena: Cut my hair? Ali: I'll cut your hair. Bonavena: Cut my hair? (Someone in the crowd says something to Ali) Ali: Well, he never should have started talking - not with Muhammad Ali. Bonavena: Clay. Ali: What? Bonavena: Clay. Ali: It's Ali. Bonavena: (Laughing) Clay. Ali: You'll call it when the fight comes off. Bonavena: (laughing) Clay (laughs again) Ali: (Getting flustered) I...you...you'll call it when the fight comes off! Bonavena: Clay...Clay...Clay...(laughing) Ali: (looks to crowd) Please! Tell everyone to get to the theatres, I have never had a man I wanted to whup so bad!
Ali played the straight man to Joe Louis a couple of times apparently, though I only have the trancript for the once. I actually think he could be thrown pretty easily in these type of situations if he gets dragged out of his comfort zone.
I can't believe you missed out the best bit: Ringo: "Why you no go the army?" Ali: "I'll tell you Monday night in the first clinch".
Ali got outblabbed by a man with a helium voice! (But Ringo did make nice, right after Ali's wrecking ball hook slammed him to the dirt.)
Bonavena just acted silly, like a 5-year old. He didn't won that conversation, he just made a fool out of himself.
"I've never wanted to whoop a man so bad...!" Yeah, ****ing Bonavena had him going. It was hilarious.
Ali own him in the ring, but Bonavena own him in words lol. I sure had Ali ko Cosell over one of there arugments, people would have said Cosell got own.
