Calzaghe said himself that fighting Roy Jones was pointless because he was so shot, but he goes and does it anyway and his fans give him credit for it. Calzaghe fans are genuinely ******ed.

come on guys its not fair to point out calzaghes many weaknesses on a Calzaghe appreciation thread. Equally though we shouldn't be lying about him, we all know Calzaghe fought shot roy to avoid getting beaten by other fighters and to make some money, even though fighting shot legends is what you do on the way up before getting a title, not the ultimate goal of your career. It was a **** way to end his career, who the hell fights 40 year old Ali/Sugar Ray Leonard as the ultimate battle of their career? (we will ignore the classless way Joe showboated against the oldster who could barely move).

We should really be highlighting his strengths like that great chin and marathon fitness. Lets stick with the real stuff yeah.

Hopkins went on to beat Pavlik, Pascal, and Cloud after Sugar Joe beat him. Yes, he was 43 years old, we know. However, Hopkins is clearly an exception because he fought at an elite level AFTER losing to Calzaghe. He was coming off wins against Tarver and Winky before facing him.

As for RJJ. He was 5-1 in the 6 fight span where he fought Calzaghe. He was universally ranked as a top 5 or 10 LHW at the time.

did you not see the fight. He could barely lift his arms in time in response to defend and attack. He was using his face to block attacks, and still Joe C was nasty enough to showboat with the poor old guy. Calzaghe is a sadistic twat - that fight was when Joe lost my respect and I disowned him personally, especially when he then ran away from Froch and Dawson the fights we were all looking forward to.

But besides all that, you are disagreeing with Joe Calzaghe himself who had pointed out Roy had fallen to **** years ago. So I don't know what else can persuade you if you disagree with the guy you are trying to defend - good luck with ice skating uphill there.

what? I didn't mention Hopkins. But Joe did wait for him to age too, thanks for reminding me. He nearly didn't wait long enough, mind you did he, Hopkins wasn't the 43 year old he was expecting to cherrypick. If he'd caught him 2 years earlier, imagine what Hopkins would have done to Calzaghe with the lungs to beat him over 12 rounds and not just 6. Facewreck.

Now please try and focus on the good things Joe did, this is after all a JC appreciation thread and tis unfair that you depreciate him on here.

That is the first and hopefully the last time I've ever seen someone make a direct comparison between Robin Reid and Carmen ****ing Basilio

Yes, a post-prime 37 year old Sugar Ray had the fight of his life against Hall of Famer and 2 weight World Champion Carmen Basilio. Strange that.

reading the comments from you and Barry smith (an Alt by the way) is very telling... you seem to spend the vast amount of your time on here ripping Joe apart, which really tells us how good you view Joe to be. i mean, how angry must you be to spend all this time doing this?

Joe beat ALL the Yanks like a good boy, and you hate it. it tears you apart doesn't it? :yep.

the reason Joe started to clown Jones was because Jones started to do it first. go and watch Jones just after the Knock down. he starts with his games, acting way out of his league like a big man. Joe didn't like it so he put Jones back in his box.

also, you all seemed to lap it up when Jones did it against the hideously outmatched Glen Kelly, (amongst others) but when done against your precious little steroids user with a glass chin, you cry like ****ing girls.
Jones got what he deserved. so i'm happy Joe gave him a taste of his own medicine, it was a long time coming.

stop making excuses for Jones will you. his ability to punch, and his hand speed was just fine in that fight. in fact, it was still better than most fighters out there. so stop with the "poor Jones" story.

you were looking forward to the Froch fight back when no one (including the UK) knew who the **** he was??? you keep deluding yourself, yeah. keep finding new ways to **** on Joe if you wish, but it won't stop you from feeling like a bitter little ***** with an axe to grind.
and Dawson didn't bring anything to the table. no money. no fans. nothing.

are you Black by any chance? because we'll be able to go straight to the real reason for all this if you are.

Joe didn't wait for either of them to age, because he wanted them both much earlier. they turned him down. the money was there, so there was no excuse to duck.

why do you morons keep saying that? even though you know it not to be true?
Jones admitted that Joe made steps to get the fight on a few times. but they were turned down each time.

Hopkins turned down one of the biggest pay days of his career 6 years before they fought. the information is out there if you look.

Hopkins was lucky that they didn't fight in their primes, because Joe was stronger back then. plus he had his power. so no, no version of Hopkins beats Joe. Joe is just the better fighter. so deal with that yourself, you deluded bubble head.

lets focus on the good points of Joe, eh?

what, like when he bent Hopkins over and ****ed him like he was his prison *****? when he made Hopkins cry like a ****ing woman because it was getting too hot in the kitchen?

or maybe the time when he gave Jones a dose of his own medicine when he clowned him to death and wiped the smile off his face. or nearly made him cry because he was getting ridiculously outclassed.

or another positive moment when coming up against the next so called super star of boxing in Jeff Lacy. the guy you all said was going to ruin Calzaghe and destroy him. remember?
 Joe schooled him like no one has been schooled before. ruined him as a fighter.
but he's a bum now isn't he? so that win means nothing. :rof l:rofl clowns, the lot of you. can't deal with the truth so you ***** like women. :-(

    sad.

But you failed on one point Slappy didn't LEGITIMATELY!! beat Bernard, only on two biased judges cards. The majority of press row & ringsider voted for Nard. When Slappy refused a rematch in wales it proved he knew he'd got a gift. If they had met again Nard would have put him down again & kept him there :good

hang on, I spoke of both Joe's strengths as well as his weaknesses. I have a balanced opinion, unbiased that is.

I don't see you adding both strengths and weaknesses. It seems you are the biased one until you do that.

good luck with that, and I would urge you to please support this JC appreciation thread with more balanced opinions, because balanced opinions are of far more worth than blind worshipping which is meaningless.

Ya, I appreciate Joe. His hilarious punch technique and British stoppages brings tears to my eyes when I see them, lol. Literally one of the funniest boxers ever.
