Just how many fighters have achieved the distinction of going a thousand rounds or more throughout the sports history?

There's fewer than you'd more than likely think. The last centurions of boxing didn't accomplish it... Even if they had careers spanning decades.

The likes of Roberto Duran (821 rounds in 119 fights)
Julio Cesar Chavez (633 rounds in 115 fights)
Yory Bory Campas (697 rounds in 120 fights)

I believe the dubious distinction of the last active pro-boxer to break the thousand round mark might be Buck Smith, who clocked in 1,046 rounds in 226 fights... He was active as recently as 2009.

Reggie Strickland, who last fought in 2005, had 2031 total rounds in 363 contests. Staggering stuff.

So who was the first boxer to ever break the one thousand round barrier?

Is there a more recent boxer who has broken a thousand than the dubious Buck Smith?

What fighters clocked in over 1,000 period?

I'm pretty sure Rosenbloom is the all time leader in rounds boxed... 2523 over the course of 274 fights.

I'd be amazed if there's five fighters total with over two thousands rounds. Rosenbloom and Greb are the only fighters that I can scrounge up. I'm drawing a blank beyond them.

Memphis Pal Moore! 2,475 rounds over the course of 257 fights.

He had little power, only a handful of knockouts in all those wins.

Young Griffo was probably the first boxer with 1000 rounds under his belt.

He had 1660 overall, and reached the 1000 mark in 1892.

Wow, tough question. At first I thought of fighters notorious for lengthy careers of distance fights such as Duilio Loi, Nicolino Loche and Emile Griffith (already mentioned).
I also thought of some of the tough Englishmen from pre-war such as Len Wickwar (already mentioned) and Billy Bird. I would imagine if you have your calculator handy you could also check out fighters such as Kenny Lane, Gaspar Ortega, Eddie perkins and Denny Moyer. I don't have my handy though.

Just remembered about that feature on boxrec of rounds boxed. OK, I'm not going to be posting them, but suffice to say Perkins and Lane came up short but Moyer, Loche, Loi, Ortega as well as Ralph Dupas came in comfortably over the mark. I did look up Bird's total. An astounding 3274.

I don't think Harry Stone has been mentioned yet, but with 3022 he just squeezes into the 3000-club.
