What 02 when Jones was beating G Kelly and C Woods who had lost to a Calzaghe victim, whilst Calzaghe himself was beating C Brewer. Well I watched past best, up in weight with damaged hands Calzaghe clearly beat Jones in a weight that Jones was established in. No doubt in my mind that prime Calzaghe would win even easier
Great athletes don't need the word "prime" in front of their names. Tarver smoked Roy, Roy had one style, Tarver solved it. We thought Roy was unstoppable because we fell in love with the hype and the show boating, turns out he wasn't. End of story.
:rofl Yes in 1993 & 1994. I am talking about in the near Decade after that where he somehow managed to avoid anyone that was a threat and fight for vacant trinket belts or worthless and pointless Mandatory fights.
Jones hasn't been established since he came back down in weight and ran into that wall called SHOT. Even in the fight he beat Tarver, he was clearly showing signs of being washed up. Didn't old as hell, way beyond prime Hopkins give Joe all sorts of hell? Whereas prime for prime, Jones dominated Hopkins? My goodness, prime Jones literally could have beat Joe with one hand.
exactly. Jones didn't just duck Joe either, he ducked pretty much most of the big fights out there. he wasn't called reluctant Roy for nothing. and yes, i would have went for a Calzaghe win. he just has too much all round game for Jones.
for the millionth time... Joe was willing to travel for the right fights. fights with Jones and Hopkins in the opposite corner. why didn't Jones get the big fights then if it's so easy to make them with the American networks involved? :think how long did it take Hopkins to get the big fights?
Back in the day I'd favor Jones to win (unlike now), but not easily because of Calzaghe's style and ability to adapt. Actually that was the fight I wanted to see, too bad it wasn't made. That was obviously before it was revealed that Ray was juicing ala Ivan Drago. With that being said, Calzaghe.
Joe has plenty of ability in the boxing department to beat Jones with. as when we saw when both were past their prime, Joe was far too good for Roy in this area. it wasn't a draw with Reid either. it was a split decision. a split decision that shouldn't have been. Joe won that fight 8 - 4. yeah, because Jones had beaten loads of the big names out there hadn't he? a fight with Joe would have been the best and most proven opponent that Jones would have faced. he ducked the fight by choice to instead take on no hopers. it wasn't Joe's choice to not get these fights as he clearly wanted them. it was Jones and Hopkins choice. big difference there don't you think?
tell me about all the great fighters than both Roy and Bernard were facing at this point in time? :think your hatred and delusion won't allow for you to see the truth. it's just bull**** with you.
Joe got in the ring with who ever was willing to fight. that's all you can do. Jones was in the position he was due to pure hype. as with most fighters from the states. you don't have to be a good, or proven fighter over there. you just have to be American. :deal Joe had beaten some top fighters at this point also. so he wasn't irrelevant. not in Europe any way.
this has been done to death. this was taken out of context you fool. he's basically saying he wants to fight Jones, but he's not going to chase him all over the place. he either wants the fight or not. the tough fights part wasn't said in connection with Jones. but people have put it all together to make it look as though it was. try again.
:rofl Hopkins wasn't considered one of the elite when they fought. not even close. and neither was Toney. he was widely seen as being in poor shape at the time they both got it on. did you not keep up with what was going on at the time? because if you were, you'd know all about this.
