HBO knew Hopkins could fight, he was rated higher than Jones.. It was considered the biggest test for both young fighers at the time... Neither would lose for years, and would both go on to legendary careers...

Jones over Hopkins was one of those wins that at the time didn't seem great, but got much better over time..

That fight was fought at a very high skill level.

    You're hilarious!

We've got a quote from Joe himself, from 99, saying that he wasn't chasing Roy, yet you're telling us that it was taken out of context, and he did in fact WANT to fight Roy.

    Ha!

    That's not even delusional.

    It's way, way beyond that.

You should be in a straight jacket for your own safety.

Hopkins should have lost the first Mercado fight. most people agreed.

so you didn't know what was going on with Toney at the time he fought Jones then?

i know who Toney beat. :-(

    YOU CAN'T DO IT AGAIN!

You've literally got no chance whatsoever debating this subject with me.

It would be a complete waste of time on your part.

I don't buy the Toney excuses.. He always had weight issues, but it didn't stop him from winning world titles at MW and SMW did it?

Toney's manager also said that before the fight Toney seemed fine, and was confident he would beat Roy Jones.

You should not let an excuse wipe a victory away.. Toney is a professional, he is totally accountable for making the weight he gets paid millions to fight at.

of course you believe Jones beats everyone. when you look as good against the caliber of opposition he fought, you'd think he'd walk on water.

    Jones was a fake.

he could have fought the best out there many times, no one was ducking him making life difficult for him. he chose to dodge the fights.

How were they trying to get the fight in 99?

Joe had turned down the opportunity of fighting in the U.S. and he said he wasn't chasing Roy.

    WTF are you talking about?

Even Murdoch out of the A Team didn't talk as crazy as this.

You're either baiting me for a laugh, which is fair enough, or you need to see a psychiatrist ASAP. Which is it?

    Toney
    Hopkins
    Ruiz
    Tarver

Those are world champs from MW-HW... No "fake" can accomplish that feat.

I know I shouldn't get too serious though, I know you troll sometimes.:rofl

it was a waste of my time the last 3 times we did the same **** you want to do yet again.

i bet you could have this same debate until you draw your last breath couldn't you?

instead of coming on here, just get a room with Roy and have done with it.

In 99, he said he wasn't chasing Roy.

In 2003, he gave an interview where he said he was Britain's best boxer, that included the Crown Jewels comment.

I can't post a link at the moment, but just google the key words. It will come straight up.

I don't think Hopkins could ever beat pre HW Jones.. Just is not Hopkins fight.. Hopkins knew it too. Which is why he didn't take 60-40 IMO.. Remember that Roy was also injured in that fight, and got better himself after.

Just look at the way he fought shot Jones, Hopkins looked like a punk, I could see a mental edge Roy still had on him.. Hopkins won that fight, but Roy looked like the better man, a different judge may have counted Hopkins out..

Prime Roy gets full credit from me for being a superior fighter than both Hopkins and Toney... Those are fights Jones would always win.
