Was Toney not favored to beat Jones? Was Jones not moving up in weight to fight him? Was Toney not considered one of the best fighters on the planet? It was considered a HUGE test for Jones to move up and fight Toney.. Toney talked all kinds of **** going into the fight, and thought he would beat Roy. It was a great win. One of the best of the era as a matter of fact.
you keep telling yourself that. well, according to Jones' team of lawyers, it was ripped fuel. but many have serious doubts. some even go on to call it out and out bull****.
In 1999, he said "I'm not chasing Roy Jones. Be honest, Roy Jones is a good fighter, and I don't want tough fights." In 2003, he made the Crown Jewels comment. Just type the key words into Google. You will find both of the articles.
Toney was only the favorite due to Roy having not faced anyone other than Hopkins. by the time the fight got nearer, i'm sure those odds shortened. not that i knew what the odds at the time where, mind. i was too young to bet, so that part of it never mattered. but the way people and insiders were talking at the time, i'm surprised that Toney was the favorite. i would have picked Toney to win if it wasn't for all that. that's why i went for Jones.
WTF are you talking about? Roy had ALREADY beaten him, and he would have had to have gone down in weight. There was no way he was getting 50/50 atsch
do you honestly think i'm going to believe some bull**** article on the internet that isn't from it's original source?
The original article was from June, 1999, from either the Daily Mail, or the Daily Mirror. It's on the freelibrary. Freelibrary.com is an online archive of old newspaper articles. It's not some fan site. The 2003 article was from The London Evening Standard. Instead of arguing, just type them into your search engine. You'll see them both on the first page of results.
Toney was the favorite because he was a proven elite fighter with wins over some of the worlds very best, and Jones greatly talented not as proven against elite opposition, was moving up to his weight to challenge him. Had it been a close fight that could have gone either way, I would agree with you that maybe Toney at 100% could have edged it, therefore it was not a great win for Jones.. But when you look how Jones dramatically outclassed him from bell to bell with ability we have only seen from few if at all, you would have to call it a great victory.
i've seen them before. i don't need to see them again. i'm going by what Joe said in interviews on TV.
