there was no way Joe was going to go looking for Roy in America, because he wanted to keep his zero record of losses, and fighting at a world level consistently as opposed to his national level would have meant losing several fights.

SO I don't blame Joe 'for not chasing Roy' as he is directly quoted as saying and 'not wanting tough fights' direct quote again. HIs priority was keeping his zero losses, not having tough fights.

He chose not to take the Hatton path, good on him if wanted to avoid notching up losses. Sadly it means his legacy is being overtaken very rapidly and he may regret not fighting better opps now since in a few years he will drop out of the top ten SMWs ever.

There was zero historical significance. He didn't fight Lennox Lewis. End of discussion.

    :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

By that logic all of Roy's belts at Light Heavyweight were worthless as the WBA and IBF belonged to DM and he was handed back the WBC belt after he dropped it. Roy fought for vacant belts his whole career so I guess those were worthless also? Are you finally admitting that? You just sunk yourself with that idiotic post.

What Roy did at Heavyweight for his one handpicked fight was irrelevant anyway as Lennox Lewis was THE Heavyweight Champion not John Ruiz. :hi:

you don't think its historically significant that a guy who was a LMW took a HW title? The fact that no one else has it done it is not significant? Really? Its never been done before, its a HOFer claim fight, and yet its not significant to you?

Whats significant to you, Manny Pacman capturing a HW title? Or would that not be significant to you.

Jones was in a league by himself. He pretty much make Calzaghe look like an amateur.

Roy didn't fight THE Heavyweight champion. Fitzsimmons did. And so did Spinks. Roy didn't accomplish what they did he took the easy way just like he did his whole career and won a meaningless trinket belt.

Well when they DID fight Calzaghe made Roy look like an amateur so that is what we have to go by. We can't go by woulda, shoulda, coulda we have to go by what actually happened.

he was the first LMW to go win a HW title.
He was the 2nd MW to win one.
He was the 3rd LHW to win one.

How can this be unprecedented to the world in its entirety and yet not be significant to just you?

JUst because Calzaghe doesn't have the skill level to do that you shouldn't be butthurt.

Well for one he didn't fight THE Heavyweight Champion. How can you not understand that? Additionally 100 years ago there were not 4 belts to cherrypick from. Fighters like SRR had to go up and fight THE Champion not some guy with a trinket belt who happens to be the worst of the bunch.

If Jones was forced to follow in his predecessors footsteps he would have been KOed by a Jab in one of the most one sided fights in History.

why not, everyone in the world asks woulda coulda shoulda when someone fights a shot2**** legend.

Why is Calzaghe the exception for you but not for everyone else?

This isn't even about Calzaghe but if you want to bring him into this when he moved up in weight he fought THE Light Heavyweight Champion he didn't try and handpick the WBA, IBF, WBA, or WBO champion and claim he was a 'champion'. Please tell me you as a Boxing fan understand this?

    michael spinks beat larry holmes.

    http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=1286&cat=boxer

and larry was the reckognized heavyweight champ at the time as opposed to ruiz.

also, spinks was a 5-1 dog against holmes whereas roy was a 2-1 favorite against john.
