Since YOU want to compare Jones to Calzaghe....are you seriously comparing Joe facing a 43 year old Jones victim in one fight at LHW to Jones winning, unifinyg and defending multiple LHW crowns several times over?

That is irrelevant because he unlike Roy when moving up from Light Heavyweight fought THE Heavyweight Champion and not only won but gave the guy an immediate rematch and one that one as well.

 

its entirely relevant because the original statement upon which this a comment was made was 'Roy was a LMW'.

mentioning a LHW, SPinks, is what is not relevant to a LMW taking a HW title, but I am not ruling it out its relevance entirely as you do.

I have told you this before.. Spinks moving up cannont be compared to Roy moving up.. Roy was a small LHW that started at JMW.. Spinks was a huge LHW..

THE Champion... How did Hopkins become champ? For beating the man that beat Roy..

If you want to follow DM's lineage, then Erdei was THE champion..and Calzaghe picked a 43 year old paper magizine beltholder.. You can't have it both ways..

 

SO whatever Joe achieves, you want to set the bar a weight division higher for Roy - whys that? If joe gets a ring LHW title versus a 43 year old, then Roy getting a real HW title in the next weight division up is a lesser thing to you?

Because that's exactly what you've said, what Joe achieves at LHW BEATS what Roy achieved at HW...... why the double standard? its a reverse standard, never mind a double standard!

Why would you not admit that Joe achieved a tiny amount of what Jones did at LHW? And why was it that Joe straightaway ran into reitrment as soon as a prime LHW challenged him, whilst Roy was able to defend and unify multiple LHW belts several times over for years?

 

Had Roy been Joe and moved up and fought Hopkins, you know he would call it a cherry pick of a 43 year old trinket holder, and he was ducking the real challenge in prime Chad Dawson...

Roy vs Dawson would be a competitve fight. The ONLY interest I would have in that fight is seeing whose Glass Jaw would get shattered. So, no I would not say Roy was ducking.

For sure you can understand what the point is here? Roy fought a meaningless trinket beltholder who he handpicked. Spinks didn't do that. Calzaghe didn't do that. They went at THE champion and won.
