i'v never rated de la hoya as a fighter, (i thought ike quartey and whitaker beat him and i thought he was a ***** for running in the last 3 rounds against tito)
but no one can deny the fact that he won 5 clear rounds against a prime floyd, i'm a floyd fan and i rewatched the fight and the conclusion that i come to is that since beating de-la hoya no fighter comes near to the skill level as even that 34 year old de-la hoya who was past his best at this stage of his career and was a part time fighter, floyd in 2007 was better then he was today floyd today doesn't have the same footwork or reflexes had 6 years ago.
al-varez was a hypejob, cotto would have been a great win if floyd fought him in 2007/2008 at 147, marquez was too small, ortiz was never a p4p fighter. Hatton would have been a great win at 140 had they fought, collazo kind of showed hatton up a bit at 147. Theres no one in boxing right now who can give floyd that signature win. had he fought these people he would have solidified his status as an ATG.

if i'm being over critical please tell me. after watching the de-la hoya fight i had to look back at floyds recent fights and it drew me to this conclusion. floyd has really decent wins but the fighters he holds these wins against were either fighting in the wrong weight classes, were hype jobs e.g. guerraro and alvarez or were never p4p.

Castillo was his toughest fight and oscar won 4 rounds max if you wanna be generous. Your not going to agree but I don't care.

 

Floyd came up to 154 for the first time in his first major big time fight. I still think Cotto gave him a much tougher fight.

Among a whole slew of HOF'ers on his resume, only Castillo twice, Oscar, and Zab Judah gave him a tough fight? And Jesus Chavez and Carlos Hernandez a little bit.

This thread backfires as it shows Floyds' greatness.

 

Oscar won four rounds maybe but he was competitive through most of the fight,there was no round where he was totally outclassed

 

Beating Cintron wouldn't have done anything for his status in the end. However having Williams/Undefeated Cotto/and pac from 09/10 would be pristine.

 

i had floyd wining 8rds to 4 against odh. i think castllio 1, agustas (burton), chavez, corely, judah, cotto and mosley in that order was his toughest fights for him.

PAC gave Floyd his toughest fight...making Floyd go crazy. One day Floyd would say he wants to fight PAC and the next day he would say he never said that. One day he would say PAC is easy work and the next day his health would come first.

 

TBH, I do not think he had much trouble with Oscar at all people say 8-4 and I think that is you are giving the rounds that are close to Oscar. the only time I saw Floyd truly struggle in a fight was Castillo 1 and that was due to injury

I don't think DLH-Floyd was close, at all.. I thought Floyd beat him rather convincingly.
