No if you watch Mercer/Lewis you will see that Mercer boxes with Lewis and uses his jab very well. He was a totally different fighter than Tyson stylewise and he had a better chin. Reaching for one fight {a fight Lewis won} isn`t really useful. You could reverse that with Tyson and some of the guys he fought. Guys like Tillis, Tucker and Bonecrusher Smith, hell even Razor Ruddock went the distance with Tyson yet couldn`t get out of the 2nd round against Lennox Lewis etc....

I didnt say anything about Lewis starting 'aggressively' though he could he would probably elect to box and tie Tyson up early. The jab of Lewis would be effective in slowing down the early onslaught of Tyson IMO.

Tyson would start out with a barrage of hard punches which would diminish when Lennox bounces a couple of right hands off of him. Mike won`t go down but he will start biting his gloves, tighten up, lean throw one or two punches at a time. Mike Tyson will be welcoming the clinches. He liked to rest inside.

The Lewis uppercut would be a weapon of choice once Tyson slows and loses his taste for combat which happened quite often if his power didn`t bail him out. Not saying Tyson would be as bad as he was in 2002 but his limitations were the same.

Tyson does have a chance because he can punch I just think he loses 4 out of 5.

Tyson outjabbed Lewis in the first round in 2002. Tyrell Biggs was just as big as Lewis and had a better jab, but lacked Lewiss power. This is Tyson using bodyshots, the jab, hooks, and uppercuts. Lewis's uppercuts can be
effective but Tyson can eat as many as he has to. Mike was too tough, when he catches Lewis he stays down.

Mike was rocked in the first round of that fight, he said so himself. So if you want to use that as an example of what would happen had they fought in their primes, be my guest. Lewis manhandled the hell out of Tyson, and when Tyson came in to land his shots usually received an upper cut for his trouble and was then tied up. Tyson relies on speed and combinations to win fights, it does strike me like he'd get the opportunity to throw as many combinations as we're use to seeing, given the strategy Lewis was employing.

I gather you don't believe Lewis when he said he damn near broke his hand and needed a few rounds to adjust to the pain before he could throw it with bad intentions again. He said Manny was too worked up for him to bother telling him in between rounds so he just let him rant. That said, I remember watching Mike since his career began and at one time thinking he was invincible, but unfortunately that turned out not to be the case. And one thing Lewis had over Mike big time was mental fortitude.

Once again, sigh, people make too much out of this. I believe that's what Sauhund II was pointing out, that Lewis would be thinking too much and stinking up the joint by shitting his pants due to a combination of holding-itis and a sudden case of irritable bowel syndrome. He'd be way too cautious early on which would embolden Tyson, not frustrate him. Lewis isn't some mental genius who would win the fight by picking Tyson apart with his mind or mental fortitude. Absurd, oh absolutely.

I think the fight looks like Tyson vs Tucker. Tyson by unanimous decision.

That's how I see it as well, Tyson would come out with alot of fire and movement but Lewis would just blanket him everytime. Once Tyson slows, Lewis would start picking at him with the jab and measuring him for bombs.

I would be rooting for Mike, but I don't see him pulling this one off.

LOL, and Tyson never lands in those scenerios..... ever, but borderline journeyman Rahman, Tysons heavybag McCracken put him to sleep, Octupuss Akinwande made him touch the canvas, HBO fraud Grant and Roid Briggs had him wobbled.......speaking about wobbled, lol, in Rahman II he was staggered by a jab......

He fought scared against the One Trick pony......walzed t e n t y f o u r boring rounds with a severly diminshed Oldyfield but now against Tyson he is measuring with big bombs, how the **** did he not "measure" those guys or the rest of his mostly boring fights, Phil Jackson, yeah, a artificial yourneyman and still did not go for the kill until later.

Fact : Lewis will never be agressive against ANYBODY with a pulse and no , that bum Golata or cannonfodder White Buffalo dont count, lol, a washed up stoned Tyson finished the polish mental midget similar to Lemmie................

He is the ONLY HWT champ who was cold ****ed not ONCE but TWICE by absolute ham and eggers, Fact not fiction, that is the undeniable truth no matter how the Lewis worshippers are trying to spin it.

If that fight would happen today, both fighters in their best shape, body and mind with no out side distraction, Michael Gerard Tyson will either decision Lewis be cause Lemmie is too gunshy a la Tucker or Bonehugger or gets laid out if he comes out guns blazing a la Ruddock or Golata, I would put money on it.

Nice to see that racism and homophobia is alive and well here on ESB. Hell that comment would even make Archie Bunker proud of you.

This is the problem I have with those with limited analytical skills.

Do you really think fights play out the same over and over again? If they did, wouldn't the second Rahman fight mirror the first?

This is like reading the ramblings of a child.

Bottom line, you have to sustain an epic beating to KO Tyson,
or spoil your way to a decision. I believe the biggest part of this
fight is the mental aspect, however the advantage goes to Tyson!
Lewis would be intimidated against 80s Mike.

    I'm not sure of that.

Douglas and Holyfield didn't take that much punishment, and were successful in neutralizing Tyson by timing his offense and wrestling him on the inside before he can rip combinations off.

Sustaining epic punishment from Tyson would likely get you finished early. Catching him coming in and limiting him to one punch has proven managable.
