No doubt about it Joe Gallagher's tactics cost Scott Quigg the win last night, you do not give away 4 rounds especially in a World Title fight, Quigg has a tremendous engine so why not start fast and wear down Salinas in the later rounds, Cubans are well known for there lack of stamina so Gallagher's tactics are even more baffling ? and given that Salinas didn't pose much of a threat, one word springs to mind Amateurish :patsch

Well well, the song says 2 out of 3 aint bad, but its not about boxing, if it was, 2 out of about 60 wrong is bad, by the great boxing fans standards. A failure maybe?

You start too fast and take chances against a fighter like that and make a mistake you get punished they did the right thing and should have got the nod

Hindsight is lovely. It was a decent strategy that started one round earlier changes everything. Quigg was at speed and agility disadvantage. The first four rounds of a pro fight are pivotal, especially against a faster fighter. The first 4 rounds are just like an amateur fight where you are fit, at your fastest, sharpest etc

Quiggs mistake was not doing more damage in the slower rounds. His fast rounds were hard but his slow rounds lacked anything. You can start slower and accept you might not win the rounds but it is still a time when you should be investing to the body for example.

I agree with what your saying about the early rounds but its a lot easier said than done I think against these tricky Cuban guys, look how daft rigondeaux made donaire look they can have you hitting fresh air all night and fence their way to a victory without really engaging if your not careful

It was weird that before the fight they told everybody they would lose the early rounds, I know its always a possibility vs a slick Cuban but i don't think its right to come out with these words before a fight as its too negative. Its alright saying the early rounds will be tough.

its not hindsight when Gallagher told whoever cared to listen that was going to be there tactics (Spencer Oliver)
Gallagher screwed up and cost Quigg a victory

I didn't think Salinas offered much in the end. At the beginning he was anything, a bit like Gonzalez in the Burns fight. But literally round on round, you could see that he had a diminishing inside game and not alot of pop or strength, relative to Quigg anyway. Hindsight is great as a poster before me said, but I think you have got to give yourself a chance to win every round, Quigg didn't do that. On another night he walks away with the W, but it wasn;t to be.

The other thing about taking it easy early is that it takes away the chances of scoring impressive, dominant victories. Its not the most important thing, but it is the entertainment business after all and ultimately turns into $$$ in the long run

Yeh but if you go out irrationally and get caught with a daft shot you could end up losing by k.o and then your future $$$$ are really in a mess

Didn't say he needed to be irrational. I don't think it is a fine line either between the two. Obviously, Salinas fancied himself at distance but he didn't overthink the game plan, he just went to win every round. I have no doubt that Quigg is far more well rounded and would win a rematch. Need to box to win every round.

"Regular" World Champion, you have to laugh i suppose. If Rigo was watching Sky's coverage last night i wouldn't have blamed him if he would have thought he had just lost his WBA title.

If your gameplan was to start slow & give early rounds & expect to come from behind the last thing you should be doing is telling anyone about it quite the opposite in fact.

Thought he nicked it but the slow start came back to haunt him Quigg looked like he had plenty left in the tank.
