Wladimir disgraced the sport this time around big time... I consider myself honest fight fan and I just can not find much positive from this fight... Felt bad for Povetkin who really tried but Wlad fought like giant octopuss there.. There was times when Wlad did have attempt to throw punch at all but Clinch and push Povetkin down.:-( There was flashes of brilliance from Wlad for few seconds but it just looked like dude wanted easy way out there with that fouling... This was one of the all time dirtiest performances from a Top boxer what I have ever seen. I dont know, it looked like WLAD DOESNT HAVE A FUKIN FIGHT IN HIM anymore. Wlad did not come to fight here only to get a "W" and collect his paycheck.:verysad
I'm pretty sure Wlad was sick (since seeing the post fight presser), his body couldn't do what he wanted to. Some of those right hands looked like he was sleepwalking.
Wow MB, that is saying a lot coming from you. I am not his biggest fan, In fact I do not even watch his fights but I know you are a fan off his. I cannot believe his performance was as bad as that. Where do you see him going from here? do you think he will retire if he no longer has the fight in him?
I want to see Fury take this fraud to the cleaners. Wlad cant hump on Tyson. Tyson peels his cap back.
I hear ya MaliBua. I simply couldn't believe what I was seeing in this fight. People say "well Wlad always clinches, why are you suprised?", but this was different. He was forcefully pushing down on Povetkin's neck at almost every opportunity. He was very inaccurate with his punches, and when he did hurt Povetkin, he threw him to the canvas. He was given credit for scoring 4 knockdowns, but in reality he only scored 1 (in the 2nd Round). Maybe he needs a new trainer, maybe he just doesn't react well to any and I mean any kind of pressure from an opponent, maybe he was injured, maybe age is beginning to show, who knows. Two things are certain: -What we saw vs. Povetkin was an embarrassment to boxing. -If this is all he has to offer, he needs to retire. And this is coming from a longtime fan of Wladimir.
The Klitchkos are the modern Wilt Chamberlain. Wilt could have been good, but you gotta wonder why wouldn't anybody 7' tall be considered "great" when the next tallest guy is like 6'9"! It was miserable watching this 6'6" guy fighting such a smaller guy. And not really using any kind of boxing. Sure, there were a few jabs - one that nearly knocked Povetkin down. Povetkin has no head movement, and each time he was close on the inside, he seemed to wrap his arms around Vlad. No punching, no giving himself room to punch. No Skills, period. I can't see how anyone would think prime Iron Mike would not knock Vlad out! Or even a prime Ali, and Ali for the reason that Vlad gets so tired in the later rounds. Sure, if Vlad goes toe to toe with either Tyson or Ali, he is just too big and too strong. But , I think Tyson (bobbing and weaving) would ko him early, Ali, using a lot of dancing, jabbing, holding, would ko him late. Its never fair to pit a champion of today with champions of the past, but hard to say Vlad is anything better than good until he proves it against another skilled heavyweight - not former cruiserweights and under sized heavyweights.
I have been a fan since his amateur days and I am very frustrated with how he fought yesterday. At this stage it is not like anything will change. One can daydream about Wlad getting a different trainer but from what I gather he basically trains himself these days. I guess the only positive is that top contenders should be willing to face him next and Wlad will not have to take several steps back in opponents like after the Haye fight. Regardless of how dissapointed I am with how Wlad continues to fight, it is still going to take some weird event for him to lose anytime soon.
To me wlad took an easy ride after the 7th, I think alex caused a lot of those clinches, but also after the 7th wlad just got lazy, throwing big right with the instinct to just grab after such a shot, that laziness. An the ref I think sence that wlad was holding but alex put him in a lot of those situations an tried to bait a point deduction.... Wlad barley spent any time using his boxing skills hear for me, he did not dance on the outside, staying on the outside of his jab, I not sure why he did not, he rarely boxed this man but more just bullied him. first 7rds were fun for me to watch the later, just had me talking to much to the TV an hoping for him to get that jab going, an forcing this into a boxing match
lol So the guy known to have a glass chin will beat Wlad? The first jab Wlad hits him with he will go out.
Common you british moron are you this stupid? You wanna know what happens to fury if he fights Wlad. Just watch Wlad vs Wach, but Fury unlike Wach will get knocked out.
Here come the Wlad excuses. Wlad was fine. He just fights like a scared glass jaw when he is up against anyone who has any chance of landing a punch. He fought like this against Haye too. At least he wins,be happy with that. Cant blame the guy for trying to keep his title.
I agree. I think Fury at his best can beat Wlad. He wont be muscled and leaned on like the polite and much smaller Povetkin. Fury has a weak chin but so does Wlad. Fury is a street fighting type of guy. He can beat Wlad.
Longtime Wlad fan as well, and I was disappointed in what I saw. I wonder if Wlad is declining to the point where he cant execute the way he wanted to, and realized that during the fight, and so went into hugging mode. It just didn't make any sense otherwise. That was bad even for wlad stadards. For as big a fight as this was for Wlad, on such a huge stage, and for him to put in a performance like that... idk... its possible this is the beginning of his decline (or that hes been declining for awhile but it hasn't been shown due to subpar comp) But the only thing people shouldn't get confused is, that he had to do this to win. No... he didn't have to do this to win. That's the point. He probably would have won a more impressive victory had he worked on offense instead of grabbing and holding as much as he did. It was just a very bizarre performance.
