People who thought Povetkin would win, be proud of your boy. What Wlad did to him this weekend was imitation of how Neanderthals used to fight. #Noskill

 

Thank you. At one point he was holding and hitting...and he kept doing it and doing it, and doing it...even trying for the ko and couldn't stop the iron chinned Povetkin. Wlad was too scared to commit to his punches which is why his performance sucked in front of millions of people who now can't stand this moron and the way he fights.

Alexander Povetkin had never been knocked down as an amateur or a pro until Wladimir Klitschko knocked him down in round 2 on Saturday.

Wladimir was also the first to knock down Ruslan Chagaev, Eddie Chambers, Tony Thompson, Calvin Brock and many others.

 

I've been a Wlad fan for a very long time, I havethe utmost respect for him and I think he is a credit to the sport, with that said....I believe he fought poorly against AP, he did hold way too much however I don't believe he should have been DQ'd.

there were a number of clinches that were the result of AP diving in while throwing an overhand punch where a clinch is absolutely warranted but there were also a large number of clinches that were initiated by WK when he really should have taken a step back and thrown a hook.

I honestly believe that had he thrown a few more punches and stepped back rather than into AP he would have KO'd him in the mid rounds. and to Roy Jones' point on fight night I agree that AP was all too content to be held, he had a free hand most times but refused to throw.

Lastly had the ref tried to break them and WK not complied and kept holding on each time he would have been in line for a major point deduction and eventually a DQ however the clinches were usually very short in duration and when the ref said break they adhered quickly.

 

I don't think anyone thinks he should be been DQ'd without having been warned about various infractions, so at the end of the day it really comes back to the ref.

But to me, given Wlad's skillset that was a pathetic display of boxing by him. He could have gotten the KO without having to reduce the match to a hugfest.

 

Those people were probably expecting a boxing match, who can fault them?

What we got was twelve rounds of wrestling, hugging and throwing. :rofl

 

Yes, it was combination of wresting and judo, didn't see much boxing.

 

Nowhere have I said the fight was exciting or enjoyable. See, people like you want to make it out like it was a John Ruiz fight where he would grab, hug, wrestle, clinch, and fake low blows for 12 rounds and win a close controversial decision and his opponent would not have a mark on him.

When what happened was Klitschko roughed Povetkin up threw him around the ring like a ragdoll while in the process knocked him down 4 times and beat his face into a grotesque mess. You try and ignore that part like it didn't happen. The fight wasn't close Wlad obliterated Povetkin and the guy looked like someone took a meat cleaver to his face.

Yep. They simply act like it was just Wlad clinching the whole time like Bernard and Ruiz do while their opponents can go out after the fight and people not even know they were in a fight. If I saw Povetkin walking down the street Saturday night I would have thought he was in a car wreck or someone beat him with an aluminum baseball bat.

 

Never said Wlad didn't win handily, just looked terrible doing it. You don't think he could have done more damage and perhaps won the fight by TKO if he'd done more punching and less hugging?

The fact is it was one of the worst fights I've watched in my life and I've been watching boxing since the early 70's. At the very least you want the clearly better fighter to demonstrate his skills absent the constant hugging when, he never needed to engage in those type of antics to win, as you yourself have said.

I went into the fight fully expecting Wlad to win by KO. I didn't expect him to hug/hold more often than he punched however.

 

Lot's of hate for Wlad in these forums, but people should keep in mind:

Wladimir never bit off his opponent's ear and he never raped a woman like Mike Tyson.

He never deliberately headbutts like Evander Holyfield, Andre Ward and Bernard Hopkins.

He was never a pimp who assaulted underage girls like Adonis Stevenson.

He's never spit in another boxer's face like Dereck Chisora.

He never threw a beautiful woman off a balcony like Carlos Monzon.

He never thrown fights like Jake LaMotta.

He never murdered his beautiful young wife like Edwin Valero.

He never beat up his woman to bring on a miscarriage like Sugar Ray Robinson.

He's never assaulted a hooker like Deontay Wilder.

He never terrorized his wife and children like Riddick Bowe.

He never captured a stripper and made her a s*x slave like Ike Ibeabuchi.

He's never performed cunnilingus on a stripper in a nightclub like Adrien Broner.

He's never been a crack head like Oliver McCall, nor a heroin addict like Sonny Liston.

 

There were times as early as the 5th & 7th rounds where I said to myself all Wlad has to do is step back and launch a right hand and Povetkin is done but he didn't do it. Same thing goes for any of the last 3 rounds. The guy was tired and could barely stand up anymore and was ready to go.

Hopefully this puts an end to the "all you have to do is get inside Klitschko to beat him" nonsense. Like Lennox before him not one person who got inside won it was quite the opposite they usually got clinched, leaned on, mauled, and eventually stopped or lost lopsided decisions. People that parrot this rhetoric don't know anything about Boxing.
