Wow! Vitali could not KO an out of shape Lewis. Lewis got in with that uppercut. Had the fight gone on, Klitschko would have been knocked out and maybe his vision would have been impaired, or worse, totally blind in that eye. Vitali was lucky.

Such a shame what happened to the heavy division after that fight. It has not recovered since.

I guess we could say the same about every stoppage.
If the referees and doctors and cornermen just let the fights go on and on we'd see lots more brutality and more KOs too.

but then vitali would have no career afterwards. lennox let him box on. without lennox letting him get off with a tko6, vitali would be an unknown half blind bum who never won a title.

Vitali should thank uncle lennox for letting him off lightly and giving him a world title career.

Vitali wouldn't have seen any of the punches coming and would likely have been stopped on his feet with Lennox teeing off on him. It's irrelevant anyway as it was about as definitive a win as you can get, Lewis tore vitalis face apart with punches, (one of the worst cuts I've ever seen) only vitali fanboys think it is controversial.

Oh please.. Most decent stoppages come when a fighter can't defend himself any longer. Vitali, despite how bad his face was (it was bad for quite a few rounds if I remember correctly) was still very much fighting, was defending himself, without a shadow of a doubt wanted to keep fighting.
I'm not gonna be a fanboy and say what the outcome would have been either way, but Vitali ate plenty of LL best punches, and LL was out of shape and getting tired. Lennox could have knocked him out the next round, Vitali could of him, or it have gone the distance. At any rate his face was tore up earlier in the fight and no stoppage, but when it gets interesting they stopped it :patsch
Everybody gave Vitali crap for quitting in the Byrd fight, he wants to continue to fight with 1/2 a face and people still dog on him.

he was only robbed by bitchko fan boys that think bitchko would have won. i actually wish the fight would not have been stopped so lewis would have won a decisive knock out victory and possibly blinded bitchko for life!!!

This post makes zero sense. The doctor determined that Vitali never had full vision, hence he really couldn't defend himself properly, which is why the doctor recommended that the fight be stopped. Truth is everyone knew that unless Vitali stopped Lewis within the next few rounds, this was a likely outcome.

he only said he wanted to fight on because he knew he wouldn't be allowed to.

Quitali was wise back then, knew how to fool fanboys like you.

But when superheavyweight Quitali quit against cherrypicked dwarf natural middleweight Chris Byrd, despite carrying an arguable five division weight advantage, that was another level of cowardice entirely. Who quits against a dwarf 5 divisions lower than you? That's like Chad Dawson quitting against Ricky Burns.

Considering that Vitali was winning at the time and Lewis was dead tired, I doubt it.

Lewis did not have the energy to win that fight. His only chance was in the 1st few rounds, and it just so happened that he almost ended up on the canvas in those rounds.
