Pay equal amount of attention to all students and don't treat the gym like a place to just come in and workout like its Balleys fitness gym. provide fitness training as part of the routine. have schedule for each class. a monthly membership, not some 40 dollar the month bull****. Provide equipment as part of the membership. one on one time with a trainer and the buddy system implemented . a status system that determines your level of skill, like the color belt for example. certified trainers who are well accomplished. how many times i seen guys with bad amateur records teaching bad technique? happens a lot. i had a boxing coach tell me to twist my heel when throwing the jab, it looked so awkward. if i missed anything or if you disagree , discuss..
most mma gyms have a color shirt system, this roots out the hang arounds who clutter the gym without ever being tested.
1) I don't know what Boxing gyms you have been to but fitness training/circuits/conditioning are quite prominent. 2) Again schedules exist in Boxing gyms. 3) Memberships also exist. 4) As does equipment. 5) One on one training is were you make a semi-decent point. But i think that is just how Boxing gyms have always been. It was months before any of the coaches spoke to me when I first joined. Where as in MMA gyms the membership is usually more expensive (perhaps trainers need to justify themselves) and there are more people who participate for fitness in my experience. 6) Status systems are a horrible idea. Judo for instance awards people for the amount of time they have practiced, nothing to do with skill. 7) Bad coaches.... the main problem with Boxing gyms is anyone can walk in, throw a towel over their shoulder and call themselves a trainer. Most of these guys are just the fathers of the young ones who are looking to make it big. There are very few old school, technical coaches left now in my view.
in boxing it can be very difficult to keep the kids interested ,,there as to be groups of different levels for the lads or girls to learn of each other as they improve moving along with experience ,,to many times the coach's don't know what drills to do witch are relevant to boxing, so they end up sparing the good with the bad & the bad become a punch bags & don't bother going back to the gym (Faking hate coaching that use sparing as an excuse to what a fight )
I hate belt systems. I'm a Muay Thai guy and we strongly subscribe to the belief the only belts that should matter are the ones won in the ring!
Totally agreed with you Boranbkk because i also hate belt system and feel uncomfortable while doing this. Belt system is not good.
