Derry Matthews signs for Queensbury Boxing

Strange decision. Wasn't exactly struggling for exposure with Sky.

 

Maybe its the chance to fight for a belt that wasnt on the horizon with Sky?

 

No Mitchell fight then, was Derrys last fight on boxnation vs Marsili ?

 

Will it financially be that much better for him than a chance to fight Mitchell, Crolla 3, etc?

 

Not sure, but the lure of a belt could mean more

 

Also if Derry wins the Euro belt it opens up more options for him...Crolla will be wanting that 3rd fight then i reckon haha

 

Seems a stupid move to me if true.

He was receiving good exposure on Sky and had the Mitchell fight lined up.

Maybe he thinks that if he were to lose to Michell (which there is a good chance of this happening) then he would be surplus to requirements and thrown on the scrapheap, he would have no title and would probably go back to Coldwell's small hall shows.

Interesting. I would have liked to see him stay with Coldwell who has a good relationship with Hearn so we could have seen him fight on Sky for longer, always in a good fight is Derry.

 

Also might not fancy the fight with Mitchell. Not slagging him off just saying that Mitchell on form is a class act and an all rounder. Matthews loses that he is back on the domestic scrap heap and tbf with the exception of Crolla it's difficult to make a case for him against the other top lightweights in the country (Burns, Rees and even Coyle tbf).

Get a deal and get as much guaranteed money as possible. I heard both Crolla and Matthews were displeased with the money they got for the second fight. I also think the Mitchell fight is being made for Kevin and not Derry.

 

Even if he wins the Euro, what does he do after that?

 

Coldwell just tweeted he found out off twitter no call or txt thats just plain sh!t

 

disappointing the big fights wont happen on boxnation we all know it. wbo euro title instead of a big fight with Kevin Mitchell. yawn.

 

Derry's team already made an offer to fight Daud Yordan the IBO Lightweight Champ.
Was told it wont happen at this stage but down the road it is another possibility.
