It's a horrible style match up for both fighters to be honest.

Calzaghe squares himself up all fight and has no power or accuracy to trouble the iron chinned Toney who is as good in the pocket as anyone. Calzaghe would have to run most of the fight and try and steal it in a stinkfest.

Remember knackered Hopkins taking him close and then squaring him up at the end of the 7th and rocking him, nearly putting him on his ass. Then he laughed at him. Toney would find windows even more and put Calzaghe down badly.

At the end of the day Calzaghe never faced anyone great let alone beat anyone great.

Of course he's still doing well now. Just seemed to dip and tire around then. Seems to be back now though.

I always though that the Jirov fight indicates that Toney can figure a high volume puncher style and counter punch with power and authority to UD Joe.

Calzaghe has a high work rate but is sloppy with it, meaning it would work against him against someone like Toney.

Toney is so overrated. Really inconsistent fighter and has lost to guys worse than Joe.

Calzaghe UD -death by a thousand slaps.

Joe had a massive work rate and a chin that could handle Toney's counters.

Iv was ringside for Toney-Jirov. What you're not realizing is you're putting the Toney who fought Jirov against the 168 Calzaghe. Toney was much faster, hit much harder and had a higher workrate at 168.

He also beat guys better than Joe. I'd take the 160 version of Nunn that he bear over 168 Calzaghe any day.

I am shocked that anyone thinks a SMW Toney could beat the best SMW ever in Calzaghe.
Toney didnt really beat anyone of real note at SMW. Calzaghe beat a whos who of his era and still holds reign today years after retiring.

Can someone tell me what they think were Jirovs top 5 wins?

A who's who? Who? Kessler. After that there is a tremendous dip in talent.

You'll be waiting all night for a direct answer to that question because Jirovs 5 best victories is laughable

Jirov is a eurobum, the only reason he is given any credibility is because an overated steroid abuser like Toney squeezed a victory against him :deal

If Calzaghe had beat Jirov he would just be another bum :yep

    Adolpho Washington
    Saul Montana
    Arthur Williams
    Terry McGroom
    Julian Letterlough

Not a who' who of ATG's, but the division was pretty weak back then.

What exactly does this have to do with this thread though?
