In the 90's and almost every other era contenders were fighting other contenders more often and showed far more skills. You've gone and picked one name out of the hat bro, and Mavrovich was never a contender, just a WBC obligation.
I don't think that he will vacate any belts, especially the IBF one since it's considered as Wlad's main belt. I'm sure that the IBF will let both Wlad and Pulev have their tune-up fights first. I have no idea who will Pulev face next, but I hope it will be a top 20 guy. Wlad has plans for December and he likely aims fighting Boytsov. A voluntarily defense against Adamek, Solis or Wilder would also make sense, but I think that Adamek and Wilder want to wait until Vitali retires so they can attack the WBC belt. Arreola and Stiverne are also in that mix, as well as Mago, so it could be interesting. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Wlad would get interested in taking the WBC belt as well. I've got a feeling that Vitali's delay has something to do with Wlad's potential plans for the WBC, but that's just a feeling since Wlad didn't mention anything about going after the WBC so far. Imo Haye won't get a title shot unless he becomes mandatory and it's not likely to happen very soon. He's #1 by the WBA but that don't mean much, since it will be Chagaev against Luis Otriz for the regular WBA belt.
Im not comparing Wach and Pulev, only saying that's how the fight will turn out. Pulev doesn't have the power to take Wlad out and he won't land often enough to wear him down. He doesn't have the experience to beat Klitschko and I'd bet cash Wlad will expose that.
Another fighter who's wasting his career fighting nobodies. I like watching this guy fight, but he's got years of amateur and pro experience and just will not step up. The division is a mess.
Boytsov may be fighting Alex "Lionheart" Leapai on the Nov 23 Hernandez-Alexeev card, but it's not official yet.
How will the Pulev-Wlad fight go? JAB, how would Arreola do against Wlad, with his power and pressure?
Another ugly mismatch ending with a Wlad ko within 5 rounds. If Cunningham could drop Fury the way he did Wlad will hurt him bad when he lands. I really don't see any potential in the division to beat Wlad. Its just terribly bad and the fighters are mostly unskilled and inexperienced at the top level.
Povetkin may have caught him with a light punch. You have to remeber how weak Wlads skin is. I won't be watching Grabimir vs Pulev. Grabimir will win by grabbing Pulev for 12 boring rounds and win by UD.
Arreola doesn't have enough in his arsenal to beat Wlad. It might look closer than his fight with Vits, but he'd take heavier punishment and get stopped by Wlad in my opinion. The fight I would like to see made is Pulev-Arreola. THIS would be entertaining and it would be two top 10 fighters proving their worth for a title shot.
Pulev is mandatory, but no word on when the fight will happen. Pulev mentioned he'd like to have a high level tune up fight before Wlad. IIRC he was not very happy with his forced inactivity, while waiting for the title eliminator and probably feels he's not in his best form and would like to prepare better. If I read correctly - both camps are saying the fight will happen, but not sure when. On the actual fight - I have Wlad as a favorite by a big margin and I am not his fen, especially after the Povetkin fight. Still, he's a class above any current contender. A few things that may help Pulev make the fight more competitive: - He's not easy to rough up. Both Dimitrenko and Ustinov tried to wear him down with clinches and he shrugged them off. - His jab is excellent and if he uses it constantly, that could give Wlad some problems - Moves quite well and seems to have good ring smarts, likely to be capable of plan B - Solid chin, took some heavy shots and kept pushing forward - does not seem intimidated by much bigger fighters - purely subjective, but Pulev sometimes makes me wonder whether there could be more to him than what we've seen so far. Fighting Wlad could be just the time to show any hidden cards. On the downside: - his jab is his main weapon. lacks variety of punches and it will take more that a power jab to defeat Wlad even on a good day - rarely punches in combinations and that would seem to me to be a key factor against Wlad - though his defense is good, Pulev is not that hard to hit. And Wlad can hit HARD. - so far Pulev has been relatively predictable and somewhat one dimensional. Unless he surprises us with hidden skills, Wlad's camp would have already gotten a good measure of Pulev and how to defeat him - Although Wlad did not impress me in his last fight, let's not forget that he could be an awesome fighter and both smart and dirty enough in the ring
Silenco, good observations but I think that Pulev's jab combined with Wlad's easy to cut skin can result in lots of problems for the champ at mid rounds. One thing I have noticed is that Pulev lands his jab at will on all of his opponents (except TT of course). It may not be as strong as Wlad's but he will land on Wlad's face not once or twice. And if Wlad gets a serious cut then everything can happen...
That's what I had in mind. Pulev could well try to use his jab to bruise Wlad's face and thus face Klitchko into a more open fight. Wlad's an excellent jabber himself, has longer reach and probably more power in his jab. Pulev's jab on the other hand is more persistent and on his best day he's been capable of jabbing opponents to submission. In addition Pulev seems better capable and more wiling to take punches to win, so Wlad most probably will not be able to play it safe (jab and grab) and will have to open up more and show more of his skills to win the fight convincingly. That could open up some interesting possibilities in this game and could make it more entertaining than the Povetkin fight.
