Ruiz represented a pretty big payday, and an oppertunity to win a world title in his 4th weight.. He would never have fought Ruiz if Ruiz had lost his belt to Holyfield. After he got the title, he didn't want risky fights vs. mandatories.. He wanted one more big payday.

He made good money vs. Ruiz, and got a world title.. it was a win win for Roy.

OK well why not unify then? Those would have been big money fights also.

So did a few other people. Why not them? Why not try and unify if you are wanting big money fights?

I don't think he had the desire..

He wanted either Tyson or Lewis for huge money and that was it.

If i had to write down a list of fantasy match ups i wanted to see, this would be on it.

Great match up. I would favour Jones but Calzaghe is a supreme talent and it would be RJ's hardest match up.

then why did he hang around forever then? None of this makes sense. He went back to Light Heavyweight and got KOed twice in a row. And kept fighting losing 3 in a row after that. If he really wanted out and had no desire it made no sense to leave Heavyweight without having one or two more fights (provided he won the first one)

This is what I have been talking about. This reeks of a one time handpicked deal. I don't think Jones had lost the desire like you are saying. He wasn't continuing to get KOed because he liked it I am sure.

no way, unify against superheavies. that's madness. Theres limits to what a man can do.

He should have retired once taking a HW title, with perhaps one more push at a SHW opponent with a title which would inevitably end in a defeat.

Byrd wasn't a Super Heavyweight. Neither was Brewster. Don King wanted to make Jones vs Byrd but he said Jones had 'no interest'

Kinda odd for a guy that was planning on staying at Heavyweight. Heck Loudon has told us he wanted Lennox but Lennox told Jones he didn't have it in him and was going to retire despite that not happening.

obviously Ruiz was the weakest title holder.

Basic Art of War, attack your enemy when they weakest and you are strongest, especially when its you that's at a four division weight advantage. Then move onto the next least strong.

yeahhhh rooooooooyyyyyyyy wwwwwaaaaassssss aaaa naaaaatuuural MW.

Like how Bob fitzsimmons had a division disadvantage when he fought for the HW title. Or do divisions mean nothing to you when its an American fighting as the natural MW?
