Boxing is just a milder version of war. In war it's not ideal to get shot and killed or bombed or take any damage because it all leads to death which means you lose. It's really just common sense really. Guys can become successful and sacrifice their body and health but they don't last long. Sure fans want to see a scrap and people killing each other but for the fighter it's not ideal. So to avoid that all a fighter has to do is develop defense believe it or not and expand their skill as a fighter and not be so one dimensional. It's just not with boxing this extends to so many things such as hockey and football where it's usually a great defense that wins championships. No different in boxing.
All right, so you're talking about pre-boxing fistfighting. In that case, "hitting and not being hit" probably predates humanity. Apes and other primates sometimes hit each other with their fists. When an opponent tries to do that to them, though, they don't stand there and take it. They run away or dodge, followed by hitting back.
Its a natural reaction to move and use head movement . But hitting and not getting hit is what its evoved into not how fighting with fists started. Before boxing was boxing it came from that no?????.
Boxing was started by Black people. The ancient Minoans started (gloved) boxing and so it goes back much further than the 1700's.
it's been about hitting and not getting hit since the very beginning. do u think those guys who fought bare knuckles prior to the queensbury rules and even after had all out brawls? some of those guys fought 20 plus rounds. there were rounds where very few punches were thrown. defense was even more important in the bare knuckle days.
When I think of boxing, the objection in my view is too try and knock out the opposition before it goes the distance. You can do it by landing a big punch or by accumulation of punches. You can try to box and hit your opponent but if it doesn't do any damage, your not winning in my opinion.
Of couse they would have all out brawls peps reaction would make them move but . Im pretty sure it wasnt sliping blocking backing off to those men i bet they both went in to hurt each other by HITTING each other as hard as the could and see who walked away .
