Mormeck was 3 years older at 40 and was out of the ring for 2 years.
At least Sergei was a HW and Wilder blew him away in one round without molesting the **** out of him over 4 round.

Title defenses, longevity, longest reign are easily comparable. Everything else is subjective.

Id' say top 11-15 he might make it as high as top 8-9th but he's not going any higher than that.

 

Depends on your definition of reign, he never fought his brother who was a legitimate threat for a long time, and for better or worse, that's an objective fact.

 

The losses he has on his record make it difficult -- for me at least -- to rank him in the top 25.

I'm not one of those fans who thinks once a fighter loses he's a washed up exposed 'has been', but, I just don't think many all time greats would lose to the guys that Wlad lost to.

Sure he's gotten better since then, but you can't discount the blemishes on his record entirely. That mixed with a dearth of adequate competition and I think you wind up with someone between 40-50.

Or unified with other titleholders: Ibragimov, Haye

Or fought undefeated boxers: Brock, Wach, Pianeta, Chagaev

 

Wilder has only fought one undefeated half-decent heavyweight, Kelvin Price. He's the equivalent of the first undefeated HW Wlad KOed, Najee Shaheed, or the second, Zoran Vujecic.

Damon McCreary was a fat age 40 retired super-middleweight. Darren Caudle from Fattiesville, AR was a clubfighter who has lost all his six fights by KO after fighting Wilder!

Jerry Vaughn was 2-0 and never beat a single boxer with a win on his record! Shannon Gray was 1-0 against a 1-2 boxer. Neither have fought since.

Not the same as defeating an undefeated contender 29-0 Calvin Brock, or undefeated WBA and 2001 world amateur champion Ruslan Chagaev, or WBO champion Sultan Ibragimov, or former 2003 amateur world champion and 2004 Olympic Gold medal winner Alexander Povetkin.

I like Wilder and I believe he has great potential. But he should take on an undefeated CONTENDER like Fury, Ortiz, Glazkov, Mansour, Perez, Abdusalamov or Jennings.

Two-time heavyweight champion Chris Byrd fought at lower weight divisions (like Muhammed Ali) in the amateurs, but again like Ali, fought mainly as a heavyweight in the pros. He started fighting at heavyweight in 1994 at the age of 23, and was in his prime and the WBO heavyweight champion when Wlad fought him in 2000.

Damon McCreary fought mainly as a super-middleweight/light heavyweight in the pros in the late 1990s and early 2000s, then retired in 2001. He returned in 2007 as a light heavyweight, and then retired again that year. Then he became fat and returned a few years later as a heavyweight (a pot-bellied older man).
