Great night in Belfast last night, Carl is representing both the Irish and British people of Northern Ireland.

Hopefully the big fights are around the corner and he gets to where he deserves to be. He looks the part for me especially after the Kiko Martinez knockout.

I doubt that, what anthem is played before his fights, I'm thinking neither, probably Danny Boy, that's what McGuigan had so as not to offend either side

In this thread: Lot's of people without a clue.

His background is Protestant/British but as I understand it Frampton has no interest in the UK/Ireland debate and wants to be seen to represent NI as a whole.

He should be commended for this. People trying to claim him as Irish/British need to shut the **** up.

Nope why did he box for Ireland as an Amateur then and not the UK, same religion bull**** again, anyway let's say what he really is a fighter from Northern Ireland, he may not want to represent either Britain or Republic of Ireland, who knows but i seriously doubt he considers himself British

Love the plastic paddies from America trying to talk about the Northern Ireland issue as if they understand. LOL.

Probably the sort of Americans who claim to be Ireland because their great great gran in the 1800's stepped off a boat from Dublin.

The facts are that if you consider yourself Republican(usually Catholic) and are from Belfast, you consider yourself Irish. If you consider yourself Loyalist (usually Protestant) and are from Belfast, you consider yourself British. If you are from Northern Ireland, you can get either an Irish (Euro) passport or a UK passport which reads "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" on it, or both passports if you like. Technically, all born in Northern Island are automatically British citizens(I don't get that terminology because Northern Ireland is not on the island of Britain) as it is part of the UK, but are all technically Irish citizens as it is part of the island of Ireland. The last time I was in Belfast (about 3 years ago), if you went up the Shankill Road(Loyalist), it was loaded with Union Jacks. If you went up the Falls Road(Republican), it was loaded with tri-colors. Wayne McCullough-the Pocket Rocket-is a Protestant born in Belfast that I believe(anyone can confirm?) considers himself British. Heavyweight Martin Rogan is a Catholic from Belfast that, I believe,(anyone?) considers himself Irish.

He's Irish. If he'd been born in zimbabwe he'd still be Irish. Doesn't matter what colour his passport is.

I've never met anybody over there (including all of my own prod family) who didn't consider themselves to be ethnically Irish.

Of course there are people who consider themselves British, most of the prods were ethnically Scottish anyway (ok, going back a bit...)

Cheers, man:good. My wife's from Mayobridge and my Da's from Newry. Been to Mulholland's recently? I haven't been there in ages myself. But when I'm in your area I always go to O'Toole's in Loughinisland (bout 3 years ago). My brother in-law's from Drumaroad and used to play for St. John's.:good
