Hey this is my 2nd fight my record is now 1-1 im 6'2 145 17 years old Opponent: 20 years old 150pound 1st fight Idk why i fought like this.i had no confidence and i was doubting myself the whole time before the fight.i was scaredatschatsch i got intimidated by his build and i didnt want to exchange.i really think i could have won if it wasnt for my fear.i let all my coaches down and i feel like ****.does any1 have any tips for building confidence for boxing, and also any tips on the fight would be greatly appreciated. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcOPWtrDqlk
hey mate first up, congrats on getting in the ring AT ALL. Not everyone has the guts to do that. im not sure if u usually fight like this, but you need to completely rework that jab. this is number one priority i reckon. your front foot should move forward simultaneously as you throw the jab. your right hand is way out of range because your jab isnt working. i am slightly concerned that the jab isnt polished by your 2nd fight. not to blame your coaches, but the advice to stand in there with a shorter, stockier opponent and brawl was not a smart call (i know they wanted you to win, but you were basically 'playing his game' where he had the advantage). fix the jab. the 1-2 combo will flow naturally from there. everything else will follow. you do cover up nicely when you need to, which is a good thing. as for the pre fight anxiety, everyone gets it man, dont sweat over it. BUT if youre feeling **** DURING the actual rounds, it could mean either of two things , 1. your fitness isnt right or 2. you dont have enough sparring experience. i think number 2 might be the case. as for the confidence business, youre not a wuss at all bro, everyone has bad fights. make the technical adjustments, and get more sparring experience. youll feel like Ali in there keep up the hard work man
need to go back to the basics... other guy was trash shouldnt of been able to touch u but early fights are often quite hard to do the stuff u do in sparring in them, its all about the experience in the end in the amateurs
Thanks for the advice..but the thing is my jab is honestly waaayyyy better than what u saw.i dont know why i wasnt committing to it or even throwing it right.when i spar i usually do much better and i actually get to establish it.many fighters(even pros) said i have a beautiful long jab.i just couldnt establish it this fight.i dont know why :think
What u said is exactly what i experienced.i do sooo much better in sparring.i looked like **** in that fight.would you guys watch a sparring vid this week and analyze what im doing right/wrong?
it just takes time to transfer over what u do in sparring into your fights... its like when u first started sparring remember all the stuff u could do on a bag and the pads that takes time to do against a live body same kinda thing
I've had 10 fights including exhibitions, and i STILL don't fight nearly as good as I do in sparring. I can say however, there will be definite improvement. Don't be discouraged.
Try and go forward yourself a bit, I think the problem was that when he was pressuring you he was controlling the fight because you just couldn't get into it. next time you go forward yourself a bit more but just make sure you don't walk onto anything, try and hit like jab jab jab jab straight, load up that right hand. I'm built like you i'm 6ft 2in and 151 pounds. but try and get away when their getting in close step back fire 3 4 5 or 6 jabs then a straight and unload onto him a bit.
It could also be that your opponent is southpaw. I once fought and my opponent was a southpaw, I had never sparred against many southpaws. Probably had less than 1/100 of my rounds were against southpaws. I had NO IDEA what to do. Just as soon as he came out I thought. "Wtf..." My coach said part of it was his fault and after that had everyone there change lead to south paw during last two rounds so we could experience what its like to go ortho vs spaw. This helped out a lot I think, but maybe you already had experience against southpaws, but if not that is something to try.
