Frampton: Born in northern Ireland, trained in Northern Ireland, fought professionally in Britain and Northern Ireland (Not the republic) I'd say he has a pretty strong right to be classed as Northern Irish, which is part of the UK not the republic of Ireland. If you're calling people Irish because they come from the island of Ireland than we have to start calling Candians and mexicans American because the come from the continent of America. He hasn't confirmed wheter he wants to classed as Irish or British and i'm pretty sure he won't as he wouldn't want to alienate either side of his fan base. But he is definately from the U.K. !!! Edit: Not that i'm saying that people from Northern Ireland can't consider themselves as Irish, i'm saying until someone confirms which country they represent you can't label them as from one or the other and both sets of fans should be able to claim him and be proud....phew!!
I think we can all agree that one thing this thread proves is American education is ****ing horrendous.
Sadly, we might miss any noticeable step-up in our lifetimes. He will still need around 73 clubbies, cabbies and drunkards before a step-up is considered.
From what I witnessed in his last fight, this opponent was a feather fisted, safety first pretender.I am sure Frampton is good, but at this point he is still Euro level, despite his win over Kiko. Like Scar said, step it up and lets see.
Go and ask anyone in Northern Ireland what they are, you think they're gonna say British? its you that needs to educate yourself
He needs the British to claim him otherwise he will spend the rest of his life fighting abstinent drunken overlords like Calzaghe did without being heard of till the last three fights of his career. Then he will be pursued by hyped up opponents with 20 fights while he has racked up nearly 50. The British attention is necessary if he wants to be a recognized star, ******.
That makes zero sense. You're saying he needs the British to claim him otherwise he'll end up like British fighter Calzaghe did under British promoter W.arren? Ok then :huh He already gets enough attention on the mainland UK without idiots trying to claim him as a Brit
Mark my words if Frampton comes to America he is getting his Glass Jaw shattered just like Hatton and Khan did. He is fighting domestic bums right now. How many times have we seen this story? He is getting knocked out if he dares come over here. Got it?
It doesn't make sense because you're far too abstinent and mentally out of it to comprehend, bumpkin. FrankW made it clear that he had plans for Calzaghe to travel and try to make a bigger name for himself but was always turned down on these offers. FrankW also stated that Calzaghe's hand injuries and postponements weren't making getting him meaningful fights any easy either. Calzaghe had his own share of demands when he was unknown and that's ANY promoter's nightmare. Why was it easier for FrankW to successfully promote the likes of Hatton, Khan, Hamed, Benn and many more?, ever asked yourself that or you lack the simple ability to do that too?
I would say the majority would say they're Northern Irish, not Irish (I'm aware that a large minority wouldn't) . Some would say they are British, some wouldn't. i would agree would other posters, go and read up on why Northern Ireland was formed in the fist place, because the majority of its population wanted to remain part the UK. (obviously, this was the start of a long troubled period which arguably remains to this day)
The guy that's going to be his best man at his wedding just a scored a beautiful ko in the World championships at 52KG against the Kenyan. His name is Paddy Barnes (twice Olympic bronze medallist).
Please help me to finish this sentence: the US jr featherweight boxer that will shatter Frampton's glass is __________. Who is the better US prospect at this weight? Magdaleno? Avalos? I don't see them winning against Frampton... at least he has koed a former champ and a current champ. He would make a funny fight against Avalos, but I really want to see Frampton fighting Leo Santa Cruz. Sadly this fight is not going to be done...
