Basing your decision on what Floyd Mayweather Jr has accomplished so far, who do you rank higher on your ATG list: Floyd or Harry Greb?

Seriously though, I am curious about what the answers will be (how many will choose Floyd).

You haven't spent much time on this side, have you?

Couldn't you make a safe assumption?

Harry Greb is a pure legend of boxing, and he could of been even greater if it wasn't for his premature death during and operation in witch he didn't wake up from the anesthetic.

I thought these type of ridiculous posts were only found in the "modern" section. Greb by a mile.

I think Greb was about done when he died.

Harry would have been in Manny Pac's gym calling him out, PED's, drug tests or not.

In my opinion, trying to rate fighters active at the present time in comparison with fighters active during the period from 1900 to 1950 is a pointless exercise. There was a vast difference between the boxing environments of the present time and the first half of the 20th Century.

Note that Harry Greb had three hundred professional bouts while Floyd Mayweather Jr. had less than fifty. There was another attempt in this forum to compare Eric Esch AKA Butterbean with Willie Meehan. Butterbean almost invariably fought "stiffs" in four-round bouts while Meehan generally fought capable fighters in bouts scheduled from four rounds to twenty rounds throughout his career.

Compared to the present period of time, there were many times more professional boxing shows which took place in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia during the first half of the Twentieth Century. In recent years, there are only about 1,000 pro boxing shows taking place in the U.S. on an annual basis while there were that many taking place just in the state of California on an annual basis during the late 1920s. Take note that California had a population of only 5,667,251 in 1930.
