My initial reaction is Conn has the perfect style to stay away from Jeffries and jab him silly. To win, Jeff will have to work the body. Jeff would have a much better chance at 25 rounds, I think. I pick Conn to outpoint the big guy.
Interesting fight...from the sound of it, Jeffries was an animal...He might catch up to Conn in fifteen rounds.
I think Conn fought more with quick, in and out flurries, he wasn't a Loughran jab and move look alike. He did have quick hands , feet and a good chin .
Conn basically fought a jab and move fight against Melio Bettina on film. There is very little film of Conn other than the two Louis fights. I am not confident in picking Conn. He will out jab Jeffries, but Jeff is so much bigger that I can see him wearing Conn down with body blows and wrestling in the clinches. Tough fight to figure.
Do you have this fight? Or are you basing it on the ten minutes i've uploaded? If it's based on what i've uploaded, i'd have to dispute that. Conn is in clinches and fighting up close a lot. I think so too. Very tough.
This of course pre-supposes that Jeffries was fleet enough to catch him.It took him 23 rds to get to a mid 30's Corbett who had been out of the ring for 2 years. I imagine Conn was as quick around a ring as that version of Corbett.
If we are talking prime Jeffries...15 rounds is still a long time to avoid being hit solid. Conn starts great...wins the first 6-7 rounds..or more or less..but Jeff gets in the great equalizer and the bout is over. Jeffries ko....say in 10.
Jeffries would be looking to use his left to the body to break Conn down. I think that some of the success that Conn had against Louis, was due to being able to make him feel uncomfortable on the inside, and throw him off his game. Don’t think that would work with Jeffries. Having said that, Conn would very likely use different tactics against Jeffries. A mobile fight would seem to be the best option, based on Corbett I and Fitz II. I suspect that Jeffries wins, based on making better use of the early rounds than Louis did. Even if he drops early rounds, he will be weakening Conn with body shots. With the Jeffries of the second Corbett fight, I suspect this is enough.
