IDk, that's a good question. Where do you rank Marciano, Frazier, and Liston? I do think Marciano and Frazier were exceptional but I'm not as impressed with Liston. He didn't prove as much IMO. How about Jack Johnson, Dempsey, Tunney, and others? I'm just wondering? I don't think guys like Johnson, Dempsey, and Tunney had the right combination of size, skill, power, durability, etc... to be ahead of some of the other guys on many of these lists. Louis, Marciano, and even Frazier are pushing it but proved more worthy IMO. As much as I'd like to put guys like Charles, Walcott, and Patterson among the best ever HWs, I really can't do it. Jeffries, Schmeling, Baer, and some others? Get a fvcking grip!!! As for Lewis. When he was on he was awesome. He got the crap beat out of him twice (McCall LKOby2 and Rahman LKOby5)... but he avenged these losses (WDQ5 McCall and KO4 Rahman). He was only ever down twice, each time resulted in a stoppage loss. He was rocked in several other fights but never officially went down (AKinwande came close). He had a couple of close decision wins (W10 Mercer and W12 Holyfield) but for the most part he clearly won by a wide margin when taken the distance. Most felt he deserved the win vs. Holyfield in their first fight but it was scored a draw. The rematch was very close and could have been a draw or a decision either way... the decision went to Lewis. I feel that Prime vs. Prime, Holyfield would beat Lewis. Had Lewis fought Bowe in '93... I think Bowe would have won. Had they fought later on... I'd take Lewis. Manny Steward made Lewis a much better fighter.
John L Sullivan epitomized greatness. Thoroughly and brutally dominant for 6 or 7 years. Only showed vulnerability after many ring wars, a couple comas, a broken arm and an illness which had him declared dead at one time. He was physically gifted, carried a champions air and fought for the KO.
Anyone who doesn't have Wlad, Vitali and Dempsey at #1, #2 and #3 need to stop watching boxing and go back to kiddy sports like the WWF because they obviously don't understand boxing. Anyway, my top 10. 1 - Wlad 2 - Vitali 3 - Dempsey 4 - Marciano 5 - Lennox Lewis 6 - Jack Johnson 7 - Holmes 8 - Ali 9 - Holyfield 10 - Joe Louis
Let's see... John L. Sullivan... Jack Johnson... Jack Dempsey... Gene Tunney... Joe Louis... Rocky Marciano... Ali... Joe Frazier... Larry Holmes... Holyfield...

Theres rumors that Robeto hsd put on alot of weight, not to mention Leonard was having problems with his eyes ther 2 fights, Duran won 3 more titles, And Ray went on to win 5 titlles in 5 divisions, Who you got in that 3rd fight if it rver hapened?
Marciano fought in a **** poor era against Fossils and tomato cans, but he gets a pass? The Klitschkos don't get rated though? Maybe the Klitschkos should take a time machine back to the 50s and beat bums/fossils like Marciano did so fans would look at them with rose colored glasses and rate them higher.
