Has Hopkins earnt the right to fight who he wants?

At 48 he can fight Fred Flintstone for All I care, I am happy that I still get to watch him fight at his age, other great fighters are shot to **** before 36 years of age, so if I get to see him when he turns 50 I just dont give a **** who he fights...:bbb he is a master boxer

 

then Maybe just maybe some of these new young Lions will get to see him Box and learn a thing or two, specially some of his tricks

I don't think anybody should just be able to fight who they want, regardless of what they've done or what age they are. This is supposed to be a sport for fuck sake. If you don't want to fight all people who around you in the rankings of whatever weight you are at because you think they might beat you then just retire.

I do follow football, the comparison you gave is not the same thing.

The equivalent in football would be Man United all of a sudden deciding they aren't playing Chelsea this season and want to play Norwich an extra two times and people saying it's okay because Man United have achieved a lot.

I know boxing is an individual sport but sorry if you are putting yourself up for world titles then you should be prepared to fight anybody in your weightclass. If you think you are too old to fight certain guys and want to take it easy then GTFO.

I'm also fully aware that this is not the way it works, but this is the way it should be.

there is no point for him to fight young elite guys anymore, he has proven everything.

at this point hes just geting paid to do something he loves.

 

I don't hate Hopkins at all he's one of my favourite fighters, and I don't think he actually does duck anybody so there isn't a problem here. I was responding to the notion that people can just get to a certain age and avoid fighters because of what they achieved or whatever, which if you are a real boxing fan you will recognise as ridiculous and bad for the sport.

You wouldn't get Roger Federer just deciding not to play Nadal and for this to be okay because he's older and has achieved a lot. No, because if you want to compete for Tennis Grand Slams you need to be prepared to play anybody in the rankings, and this is the way it should be in all sports including boxing.

If he wants to keep the title he should fight worthy challengers.

 

Hopkins is my favourite fighter of all time. But no fighter who is a champion should be allowed to simply coast and take easy fights, no matter what they have achieved.
