Although I think Calzaghe was a great fighter Hagler is a notch above in my opinion and I rate him as the number one middleweight of all time. The quality of his opposition and his unbelievable will to win would work significantly in Hagler's favour. A first round knockdown against Hagler would have spelt curtains for Joe. Hagler had that killer instinct allied to a cast iron chin as well as great technical skill. Spend some time watching his fights and imagine what it was like being on the receiving end of a relentless machine like that!

It's amazing to think how skewed boxing history has become since fighters now fight much longer than they once did....as someone said, Joe fought 2 greats that were well past their prime and they're the only 2 topflight fighters on his resume. Hagler's pre-fight opposition was much much better than Joe's title fight opposition :good

    Typical Classic logic.

Hagler fought more Murican household names, all of which were smaller and weaker than Calzaghe. None of which could punch as hard, fast, or accurate as prime Calzaghe, yet Hagler wins this fantasy match up.

Yep, it doesn't come much more stupid than that.

I'd take Bennie Briscoe to leave Joe in a bloody mess on the canvas within 5 rounds

I am a big fan of Calzages as well as Marvin and at 168 I like his chances with speed and foot movement....I rate Hagler high in the Middleweight ATG but I like Joe's hand speed but this is a tough match and no certainty

Funnily enough I'd take Joe Cal to dispense with anyone Hagler ever fought, in quicker time, and better fashion.

The ONLY idiotic thing in this thread is for a moron to believe Leonard would have had the balls to face Calzaghe.:lol:

Joe had retired long before he was old enough for Leonard to be interested in sharing a ring with him.

 What a pathetic group for the most part here .... the best fighter Cal ever fought by far was a forty yeard old Hopkins and barely squeezed out a win there ...

calzaghe beats mugabi. i think alot of fighters with speed and chin and decent skills gives Marvin a good fight, and dont think marvin would ko calzaghe. hopkins is a hard fight for anyone, the spoiler would make anyone in history look bad. i still think calzaghe by UD. hopkins since has beaten top contenders in light heavy division, super middle. pavlik, shot roy jones, pascal, cloud. so bringing hopkins isnt valid, hagler is alot easier to hit than bernard hopkins.

Yep, a forty year old who went down quicker, and more often than a whores underwear, claiming low blows, and tried to get Cortez to DQ Joe because he was too scared to actually fight the 36 year old Calzaghe.

Nothing to be proud of there for Hopkins fans.:good

I want to give calzaghe some credit for being a good fighter but his fans are so ****ing stupid, I just end up having to put him down. Joe struggles with thornberry and Reid but he'll easily beat hagler? Joe's career was a joke.
