Do you lose respect for fighters who cheat?

I don't mean fighting dirty like Hopkins does. But cheating such as using PEDs or, in Ali's case, smelling salts to recuperate after getting sparked.

I do. Like ROID Jones Jr, PEDerson and of course, Ali the great cheating ponce. I find it hard to respect ANYONE who has to use Peds to succeed and anyone like Ali who, after getting knocked senseless, has to tear a hole in his glove to buy time and use smelling salts to keep from losing. No matter how skilled, if they use drugs to cheat, I can't respect them at ALL.

I actually think anyone caught using PEDs should be banned permanently from the sport. No second chances, kick 'em out. Same goes for using drugs in any sport to be honest.

Ali was never knocked senseless. All Cooper is remembered for is knocking down Ali, nobody remembers him for anything else. Muhammad Ali had an iron jaw, and took on some of the biggest punchers.

    I'll give Cooper props tho.

Ali the G.O.A.T of the heavyweights.

Is using smelling salts, or a ripped glove to buy time better or worse than:

Getting overwhelmed by volume and accuracy to the point of exhaustion and inevitable stoppage loss, leading to feigning a low blow and crawling around on the apron for five minutes yelping like a lame old sea dog. Buying enough time to recover and fight on.

    (Hopkins against Calzaghe)

No... that was kinda pathetic on Hopkins part.

I don't mind dirty tactics like pushing, leaning, excessive clinching etc. It's all part and parcel of the sport. But some dirty tactics... like Hopkins faking an injury and acting like a ***** does cross the line.

Hopkins spent his entire career beating up smaller men and picking on journalists, the very definition of a flat track bully.

When he realised he couldn't bully Calzaghe (after trying to mentally destabilise him before the fight using vile racist slurs) he resorted to very nearly crying in the ring on fight night. Most bullies when confronted will back down like this one way or another.

Now Hopkins has taken to calling out Mayweather, who is basically a Light Welterweight. Bully.

Like both Klitschko brothers using steroids (Vitali was caught)? I do think less of those that do, but at the end of the day were all looking for that edge. Those who don't, are probably not trying hard enough to win. Cheating has been around forever, and some of our best athletes in the world were cheaters at some point in there career.

I don't lose respect for guys who cheat once (except things like loading gloves and such), if they just except their punishment and learn from it.

I do lose respect for guys who make a career out of cheating, and/or whining about getting caught.

I almost dislike apologists more than the cheats themselves!

Illegal performance enhancements are illegal for a reason. You shouldn't be telling your body to do things it cannot do naturally in my opinion, especially in a brutal sport such as boxing.

The case to legalise them so everyone has access to them is total bull**** as well. The sport will openly become a financial race to the best PED dealer. Boxing will be even more tilted towards those who "have" i.e. the hyped up and heavily advertised latest boxer/popstar with a Gold medal or a nice smile.

The cheats themselves? It's difficult to generalise. Some fighters may not know exactly what is going on, some certainly do. I think the burden lies primarily with boxing promoters as the makers of fights and fighters to try and ensure they are clean. They hold the money, hence they hold the power, and they ultimately make or break this sport. Until fans start voting with their feet and voicing concerns over this issue, the promoters will give zero f***s.

Are you a rancher?? You outta be youre full of bull****.
1.... Ali did not tear a hole in his glove . A seam was coming apart and when Cooper landed that left hook Ali was on ***** street. It was good cornerwork by Angelo to alert the ref of the split after making it worse with his finger. This gave Ali time to clear his head. Muhammad Ali had an iron jaw because Cooper's left hook, known as Enery's Ammer I England was a KO punch.
I do agree with you where PED's are concerned. I agree all proven users be banned from the sport

All that was discovered in Margarito's wraps was a USED gauze pad. This pad was tested by a laboratory I was deemed HARMLESS!!! Of no danger to Mosely or any benefit for Margarito. Technically illegal as new pads should always be used but NOT!!! an attempt to load gloves.
The only guilty parties here are Nazim Richardson, who blatantly lied when he claimed BLOCKS fell out  and the CSAC. who acted on Richardsons word. Best part is when the CSAC was asked to produce the illegal pad an embarrassed CSAC official claimed they'd MISLAID!!! it Stinks like a fish dock in mid summer don't it :patsch
