Hmm, the closest thing to a Vitali type fighter that ali fought is Liston and Ali made him quit.

The closest thing Vitali fought to Ali was the smaller, elusive Chris Byrd. Vitali quit.

According to my calculations, Vitlais going to quit when the going gets tough.

Ali struggles with good boxers, so he's going to be in a world of **** when against one as good, and as big, as Vitali.

Vitali has a real awkward style that Ali would have big problems with. he wouldn't be able to get his timing for him.

wide decision for Vitali. easy fight to predict. but i'm sure most will go for the highly overrated Ali that was easy to hit, and lost to basic fighters no where near as talented or as big as Vitali is.

 

trying to bring up the tear in the glove as if its fact (when its been debunked) is a form of desperate cheating yes.

During the 60s, fitness levels really began to elevate.

A very strong case could be made that a solid journeyman like Gavern would be a contender in the 40s or even 50s, but due to his own lack of physical prominence, he'd just likely be a tough big man. Mighta mustered a title shot or two, but he'd be outclassed completely by the likes of Patterson, Liston, Ali, Frazier etc.:think

Vitali moves much better on his feet then Liston could ever come close to. has much greater timing, and has great control of distance. Liston didn't.

when has Vitali got tired after 5 rounds? Vitali has great stamina for a big man.

the reason that Ali is in the condition he is in n ow is due to being hit far too much. he got hit many times by most of his opposition. ****, he was repeatedly hit by a 1 armed fighter in Frazier.

so yes, Ali was very easy to hit. as the huge amount of evidence proves. :deal

the story of the ripped glove was a load of rubbish. but the use of smelling salts wasn't.

i think Dundee realised their mistake by finding out it was illegal to use in British rings, so ran with the glove story to try and divert attention away from it.

Cooper could have got the opportunity to fight Liston instead if Ali had of been DQ'd. it would have pushed him down the rankings. so it was in their best interests to keep hush about what really went on.

Now to be serious a moment I do take offense at you slandering Angelo Dundee. That was a blatant lie Angelo never said anything of the sort
The TRUTH of that scenario was that Ali was clowning with Henry & showboating. Henry's left hook was probably one of the hardest single punches in boxing & he landed flush with it. Its testament to Ali's iron jaw that he even got to his feet. What Angelo did was great corner work he'd seen the seam in Ali's glove splitting so he put his finger in it made it look worse & called the ref over. The time taken doing this gave Ali the chance to clear his head. When the 5th round started Ali wasn't clowning any more he literally cut Henry's face to pieces to stop the fight
I know I was there I was just a kid & went to that fight hoping to see Henry silence the Louisville Lip. I left there a life long Ali fan
I do agree Ali was lucky it didn't happen mid round or Henry probably might have KO'd him

In all honesty, there were guys like Gavern that remained journeyman throughout their careers in the 40's and 50's. Maybe Jason reigns around the turn of the 20th century...but then again, the game was a whole lot different back then, so maybe not.
