Wlad has better skills, better power, better athleticism, better chin, and better experience. Outside of the flukish risk of loss inherent in any boxing match, it's all Wlad in this one.
They don't even watch hw boxing, never mind buy a ticket and go watch a live fight. Europe is where it's at with hw, even when the K bros retire it will be Europe dominated.
Speaking as an American, outside of Pac and May (both christened by superstar De La Hoya), there is no mainstream interest in the sport and won't be for a long time. Ward is a great American Champion and nobody knows who he is outside of hardcore boxing fans.
Exactly. Someone like Wilder has the attributes to spark interest in the sport again, he's funny, a KO artist and American. The media would catch on to it. The British media did with David Haye and starting to with Tyson Fury.
I guess you didn't read my post. If Wilder has the crossover appeal you are attributing to him, the media would already be all over him. The problem isn't the fighters, its the sport itself that lost favor with the American public after decades of increasingly dwindled interest. You seem to be a troll, good luck with that...:-(
It doesn't work like that anymore. Mike Tyson was famous before he became champion because he was viewable on Network T.V, but then PPV came in. Ie: Floyd Mayweather became famous over time, in the PPV era - like Wilder can.
Sure it does. No, that's not the reason why. Mayweather is one of only two active fighters to have cross over recognition with the American public. If you were to ask someone here at random to name as many active fighters they could: They would name Mayweather, Pacman...and than start asking if De La Hoya, Tyson, Holyfield, Mickey Ward..etc. were still fighting. The sport is simply fringe in this country, but if you want to continue entertain the fantasy that Wilder is a legend in the making that will put prize fighting on the map again, feel free.
But I'm speaking the truth. Just as when Haye became champion, interested re-surged in Britain. Most people here know who Haye is. Heavyweight boxing goes in cycles, (even Mike Tyson said this). When Dempsey left, there was a void. Joe Louis filled that void, when Louis left, there was a void, then Marciano filled that void. After Marciano there was Patterson, then comes in Muhammad Ali. After Muhammad Ali, Holmes was champ. But he was 'boring' in the eyes of the public, then Tyson came and filled that void.
