How exactly am I, or anyone for that matter, suppose to work out that you are referring to the events of 1999 that caused Collins perminant retirement when you, in reponding to Bailey's post which refers to both of Collins's retirement, quote only the part of the comment that is relevant to the events of 1997?

What do you expect anyone to think when you single out one part of someones post that refers to one event and respond to that as if it was another event occuring in a different year involving the same two fighters?

 

wel that's quite right, I should have referred to permanent and temporary retirements, and I shall make that distinction in future.

I did consider it was self explanatory from wiki that his brain scan caused the 1999 retirement

 

Jones said after coming back town to reagin the light heavyweight title he "probably should have stopped then" Thats pretty telling. He obviously recognises that this has been in the second boxing career the last 10 years. Roy Jones Jr. was 49-1-0 as he sees it. Old Roy Jones Jr is 7-7.

LOL, Steve Collins still wants to fight Roy Jones after nearly 20 yrs. His come forward style would have suited Jones to the ground. Collins couldn't even beat slick Reggie Johnson. How could he have beat Jones. Collins is just bitter.

James Toney and Iran Barkley should of have been guests on this show as well. Toney would of schooled all of them.

 

Jones is too good to sat next to them mere mortals. He should be sat with Toney,Hagler,Ray Leonard and Hearns

For the record. I dont think Collins ducked Calzaghe. I honestly believe that Collins got injured before his scheduled defence against Calzaghe and simply didn't have the motivation to return if he would never get his shot against Jones - and considering how he was ignored by Jones, Jones management and the American networks it looked very unlikely that he would ever get his shot.

In hindsight I think Collins regrets not fighting Calzaghe because I'm sure he believes he would have won, and since Calzaghe went on to become the most accomplished fighter in the Super Middleweight Division's history it would have been a great scalp for him, but when he chose to walk away Calzaghe was an unproven kid who'd never fought at world level so Collins was right when he said Calzaghe wasn't a big fight at the time.

Why would I mention Cleverly on a debate involving Jones, Eubank, Woodhall, Collins and Calzaghe? You seem to be losing it more than I first thought Herol. Still it made HoldMyBeer laugh, but I doubt he knows what he is laughing at

I dont disagree with that, it was similar to Calzaghe going after Hopkins who was the LHW champ and been involved in many world title fights rather than then little known Froch who was British champ a title Calzaghe used to own
