Why is Mayweather a household name?

LOL, Why is mayweather popular?

The real question is, why aren't you, or anyone in your family? Genetics?

 

That's the biggest reason but FLoyd deserves some credit for the way he's handled his post-DLH career(same goes for Pac).

 

Realistically, Tyson was the only household name aside from Ali to come out of boxing. De La Hoya was the closest thing to them and Floyd is far from De La Hoya. Oscar did sell out his fights with probably 25% females though, he was definitely a household name to alot of girls and was really looked at like a celebrity. Aside from Floyd being overpaid and underdelivering, and his little 5 second spottings on TMZ, he's a boxing superstar, not house hold name.

 

Why would we care about him and his family being popular? This is a boxing forum about boxers, a thread about mayweather. Not about a specific poster and his family.

He is popular for diverse reasons.

He is a masterful boxer. (one of the best ever)

His personality draws the haters. (the infamous are more talked about than the famous)

He beat ODLH at a time when Oscar held the golden ticket.

His longevity is amazing (sports fanatics love stats)

Undefeated Black American Fighter (murica loves a slick black American champion)

Your wife chips in for pvp because she secretly wishes she was a hoe in FMJ's 15 deep stable.

Floyd Jr.'s father and uncle were better known around the world then 99% of all Russian/Ukrainian boxers.
