The funny thing about that is the feather fisted bum Salem nearly did it pull it off in the 4th round when put Calzaghe on the deck and badly hurt him. But of course guys like Spinks and Qawi stand no chance
To think at one point I really liked Calzaghe and rooted for him. These guys make it difficult for me to remember that.
Its called "boxing" those guys didn't have the southpaw style, hand speed, foot work that Joe had. Boxing skills is why Floyd beat Blado and Zab could not.
Joe fights to the level of his opposition. If the fighter is average, Joe does enough to win. If the fighter is great .. Joe becomes just a little greater.. Joe just doesn't lose!
So how do you think Joe would do against Holyfield in a 15 rounder at the 180-190 weight range? Come on, I want a laugh.
He would probably have a loss or two depending on who he fought. If he made a superfight with Hagler or something maybe he gets stopped. Idk he was a freak of nature when it came to throwing punches. Also has a good chin regardless of being knocked down.
That's way above Joe's best weight, plus Holyfield is a known cheat. It's like Mayweather vs cheater Toney.:deal
Hagler is WAY too small to trouble a prime Calzaghe. It man vs boy. Joe slaps Hagler all round the ring:bbb
When is 5'9" the same as 6'0"? When is an average size middle the same as an big super middle? There is a reason why Hagler stayed at middle. I guess Byrd is PRACTICALLY the same size as the Klits.:think
I don't disagree with your argument but Hagler was listed at 5-10 and Calzaghe 5-11. Not sure how true those heights are but those are what is listed. That and Hagler had a more muscular frame. Not saying he wins, but just to point out that the size isn't a tremendous difference.
Hagler stayed at middle because there WAS no super middle for the vast majority of his career. And Hagler had a 2" reach advantage. Either way. Calzaghe is no pushover for any mw/smw in history. But the hyperbole has to stop.
Qawi and Spinks are a step too far. If anything, Calzaghe may have a better chance of beating Spinks with movement and his awkward style. He would need to catch Spinks on an off night though. Qawi is a terrible match-up for Calzaghe, and may well have stopped him. Mustafa blew hot and cold, and it would really depend on which version showed up. Scott and Johnson would also be very difficult fights.
