    Used a TKO 16oz gloves on a 100 or 135 lb bag
First thing is these gloves are nylon/silky on the inside. I was practing a two step to my lead foot double jab, 1 2 3 4 repeat and had the nylon part of my left hand kind of 'burn' my skin. So I stopped after 6 minutes of drilling.

I also got home and felt some tension in my shoulder and left wrist bone (running up my arm). I have just started heavy 5x5 strong lifting after 18 months out of the gym which might be the main cause or exercerbation of the heavy bag..

How can I protect my hands better. I am thinking it is the shitty quality gloves, but how do most people protect their hands?

Do they hand wrap + 16oz gloves on the heavy bag?

Let me know I am thinking of driving out to NJ and getting some Ring to Cage gloves headgear and wraps

Pick up a pair of decent cost effective gloves like a pair of leather Twins, great for both bag and sparring & will last forever then get yourself a pair of Winning NG-2 knuckle pads. You wrap them under your hand wraps and are brilliant, cheap and durable. Can't go wrong, a fav of JMM to boot.

But do most people use the wraps with the gloves on the heavy bag? So basically can I go with gloves only or wraps only (doubt the latter), or do most people wrap AND glove?

Wraps and gloves. Wrap your hands so that you can make a proper fist- hitting with a loose fist will hurt your hands. Keep your wrists straight- landing punches with bent wrists will cause you pain, unless you are a slapping, cuffing type hitter. Punch with your body- even your jab is driven from the shoulder- because if you just punch with your arms, you will damage your shoulders.

    This

Also some bags are just plain old rock solid. I've used bags of the same weights of varying softness and hardness. I would always look for an in-between type bag.

as ull see, thre are about 300 different techniques for wrapping ur hands.

Some have more emphasis on certain parts of ur hands. when I first started my wrists were a big issue. Seems like the most common of them. I bought better quality wraps and gloves, and also emphasized my wrists on my wrap style.

also, when ur trying out gloves, really try to feel how much wrist support they have. if it feels insecure, probably not a great buy.

good advice guys. john0 what wraps you end up getting?

Also I noticed a pear of MMA Ring to Cage gloves in the boxing gym. What could I use these for? How would they differ on heavy bag training?

I use title typically, some good elasticity and holds shape well.

but even everlast (like from academy or dicks) can do the trick. They just tend to fall apart easier in my experience and are about the same price.

mma gloves I wouldn't recommend for almost anything except maybe speed bag work or light mits. not enuf protection for your hands. When you start training consistently (as you've already seen), little things can add up to big injuries with enuf repetition! and that's just no good :-(

even the MMA guys will use full 14/16 oz boxing gloves when doing bag work.

Could be the lifting that's the problem.

Got a R2C pair of gloves
What's the deal with including or discluding thumbs in handwrapping?

And are there gloves without thumbs? What's the point of that? Are actual fight gloves without a thumb department?

I actually drove out to R2C's in Rutherford and meet the owner of the business, was really chill, honest and had a great experience shopping.

Will write a full review after a week or two of trying out MY first pair of gloves and handwraps

    Any good Mexican wrapping videos?

I use mexican style handwraps... they are longer, wider, and a bit stretchy.. I like them A LOT more then the old ones I used.

    Strengthen your hands.

Use fingertip pushups and grip work.

Do 2 sets of finger tip pushups with 1 warm up. Try and keep your reps 15 and under.

Follow it with some grip work. IE hang from a bar or a towel for a set time.

IE as long as you can.

3 sets, 1 warm up set.
