It would be a great year, however, while a think Kovalev wins, I'm no so sure it's a certainty that Kovalev walks through Sillkah with ease. See my thread on it:

I can vivdly remember before the Mayweather- Canelo fight and don't remember one person/ website/ publication having him 3rd, other than maybe boxrec but their ranking system is all based on formula's and ****.

Most people didn't even have him in their top 10.

Is that strange? Doesn't seem like a popular division  Think because of the size man, just too small but the thing is I said the same thing a year ago about featherweights and bantamweights so who knows, maybe I'll have to start watching it :D

Agreed, i'm not hating on Guns in Gloves Golovkin, but he's faced mostly Fox sports one opponents
Floyd fought the best WW and JMW he could and humiliated both, sending robert and cinnamon to there lockers crying
Mikey Garcia done knocked everyone the **** out, !!! for practically killing JuanMa when he couldn't see straight
Tim is tim, beat the living **** out of Russian Rocky with a Concussion!!! From round one! Then embarrassed an ATG JMM
Stevenson beat the **** out of Cloud and KTFO out of the top175 lb'er
between those 4 its a tough choice.

agreed and I think Danny should get a mention also. Matthysse was hyped beyond anything before their fight and people would accuse you of all types of crap if you didn't automatically assume Matthysse was going to kill Danny.

Danny Garcia for me,doesn't get enough credit for what he did to Matthysse.

Mayweather and Garcia fought far better opposition than GGG. Then again GGG is flavour of the month at the moment so can see why people are blinded by this

GGG winning this? Rigo's win over Donaire is far and ahead the best win all year. If Rigo beats Agbeko, he's the man.

edit: Mayweather and Garcia are decent enough choices too I suppose. Rigo, however, was expected to lose to the consensual #4 P4P boxer and schooled him silly. It was insane.

    It's gotta be Garcia.

After looking very vulnerable vs Judah, he came back and made Mathyssee look ordinary.:blood

    You really should.

    Kazuto Ioka
    Roman Gonzalez
    Akira Yaegashi
    Giovani Segura
    Hernan Marquez
    Juan Francisco Estrada
    Brian Viloria
    Adrian Hernandez
    Kompayak Porpramook

These guys would all crack a "top 25 exciting fighters" list. All Flyweight and below.

Also Edgar Sosa, Denver Cuello, Katsunari Takayama... All these guys are always in good fights.

Reason why i can't give the award to Bradley or garcia is by their own admission they both had really poor performances in their first fight of that year. Both however had better performances in their 2nd fights of the year.

I can't give it to GGG because all he has done is beat No name opponents. Whoopty Do.

For me it's mayweather and here's why. Not only did he fight in two different divisions. How many people have successfully done that this year?????? But he also fought top contenders in that division. Guerrero at WW and the Lineal Champ Canelo at JMW. Both these men were at the peaks of their careers. Guerrero having destroyed Berto and Canelo having beaten undefeated Trout.
