Sad day for sure. I had several PM"s with JG and he seemed to be a genuinely nice guy with tons of stories based on fact and life's experiences. A lot of posters to these type sites exaggerate their credentials, JG didn't. He simply lived it and shared it. Some of the younger guys would give him guff every once in a while but the ones that truly knew him would straighten things out in short order. I, for one, am going to miss his stories. I'll raise my glass in his honor later today and toast a true gentleman. RIP Joe aka JG
JG was such a gifted writer that he could communicate his thoughts in such a calm, clear and concise way. When i read his articles,I could almost hear his voice like he was simply talking to me. Rest in Peace John, its a sad day hearing you have left us.
Wasn’t it something to have a knowledgeable poster who could form a direct link between a 20 year old aspiring historian and a great champion form the 1950s?
Damn thats a shame, he was part of what made this a unique site, pretty sure he embellished some of his showbiz escapades for us but he was there no doubt, what a character and a gent I hope Bobo Olson is still around, I actually found him even more interesting than JG What happened to this site? I just got back after a while Anyway RIP Joe Rein , a loss to boxing and boxing fans and no doubt the people that knew him.
