Are the BBC and ITV to blame for suppressing boxing in the UK?

    The theory that boxing is no longer a "mainstream sport" in the UK is a myth. Chisora vs Fury had a peak viewing figure of 3 million in 2011 when neither were well known at the time and it was not very well advertised and it still achieved these numbers, it was also on channel 5 which didn't help yet it achieved thee numbers. If Fury vs Chsiora got 3 mill in 2011 on c5 then what would Froch vs Groves do on bbc 1 or itv, it would easily do 10 mill, surely. Do you blame the BBC and ITV for what they have done.

    The BBC is run by posh, lefty twats, most of whom will look down on boxing as being a barbaric, working class sport that should be banned.

    It's also bs when they say it would be too expensive, if they can pay off these executives million pound severance packages then they can pay for a boxing card. Eubank was getting way over 10 million views when he was on, Just imagine Haye vs Fury, that would do crazy numbers. They are too tight, they put on crap like strictly come dancing and pay that old fossil Bruce Forsyth god knows how much. They don't even have to put on mega events like I said but they could even pick up international fights, channel 4 do American football so surely they could pick up some cards from the US.

    Boxing on the BBC will never happen unless they sack off both Graham Norton and Match of the Day.

    ITV have the money to spend on boxing now that they've lost their European football rights. The two issues are scheduling and linking up with a promoter.

    Undoubtedly. When they have got involved, their involvement was a joke. They invested big money is rubbish. 10 **** Harrison fights. I wonder how many big international fights 1 million could have bought the BBC?!!

    Also, boxing isn't on that golden list that means terrestrial tv must show world cup, Olympics and other big sporting events.

    The money in Football kind of allowed that to take over but i think uk boxing is still popular and in good shape

    The culture at the BBC insofar as sport is concerned is solidly against boxing - I'm pretty sure that Barbara Slater, the head of BBC sport, as said on record that she isn't in favour of boxing; certainly her predecessor made it crystal clear that he was hostile to the sport

    Whether people like it or not Boxing screwed up having boxing on terrestrial tv. Boxing can blame no one else but themselves.

    I could go into a proper rant but for me the main culprits are the promoters who despite lots of bullsh it refused to match their boxers against opponents from a rival tv company unless forced to do so by a purse bids situation.

    The promoters will blame the TV executives and small print in the contract.
