As Champ Did Hagler Feast On Smaller Challengers?

greatest middleweight ever in my opinion.he probably had the best chin ever and had an iron will.mugabi was effectively finished after his go with the marvellous one.

Back on topic, I've always felt that Hagler pretty much cleared out the division twice, once before he was champion & once while he was champion. Minter, Obel, Hamsho, Sibson, Roldan were all worthy challengers & full blooded middleweights imo...and he dealt with them all convincingly...

 

In fairness Mugabi was only a Light Middle, and even then Hagler had to foul him to ease the pressure.

But yes Hagler was possibly the 2nd best MIDDLEWEIGHT of all time, after SRR.

 

I don't subscribe to the theory that Marvin beat up on stuffed light-middleweights. Interestingly, Leonard and Duran were probably harder tests for Marvin than many well-fed middleweights would have been; similar to how cats like 'Jersey' Joe and Ezzard Charles were probably harder for Marciano to pin down than the big boys.

However, on the classic Monzon comparison, Carlos defeated superior natural middleweights in Benvenuti, a much fresher Briscoe and Rodriguez. Griffith, while originally a welterweight, was a very accomplished middleweight.

For me, rating Monzon over Hagler has always been a case of close but clear.

 

Pretty solid post Ted .. Hagler and Monzon are without question all time great top guys in perhaps the all time toughest division … I'd pick prime Hearns over Nino for sure but Briscoe and Valdez were both bad asses .. Keep in mind Carlos likely got a bit lucky decision wise in the first bout w Bennie and in the second was almost taken out, far and away the most hurt he ever was on film .. Valdez was a terrific , tough fighter but a favorable match up for Monzon as Valdez had a very short reach which was a big handicap.

I think Marvin fought more challenging fighters style than Carlos did and head to head feel Marvin is the most difficult challenge Carlos would have met by far .. The Hagler of 1980 or so was a brutal, fast, outstanding boxer puncher with killer instinct who would have given Carlos all he could handle … I simply don't know who wins ...

And had china chinned hearted not broken his hands ( on haglers, admittedly rock solid temple ) I believe hearns would have won

Duran was winning after 12 rounds

And for all the bs. Te fact remains, Leonard who had never fout at that weight and hadn't had a pro fight in years, out boxed and out hustled hagler easily

It wasnt a close fight, Leonard won convincingly

Dnont know how anyone could score the fight for hagler... Based on what? Tat he was the one going forward, ****.... De la Hoya was going forward against floyd and that wasnt close either
