Oleg Hermann, manager of WBA/IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (28-0, 25KOs), says British fighter Martin Murray (25-1-1, 11KOs) has refused to face his boxer. They wanted to fight Murray on February 1 at Salle des etoiles in Monte Carlo, but Hermann says Murray is refusing to accept the fight. The WBA placed Murray in line as the mandatory challenger to Golovkin.

On Saturday, reports surfaced that Murray was going to face Golovkin on the February date. Murray later denied the reports, stating that he was scheduled to fight on the same show in separate bout, and looked forward to facing Golovkin in the near future.

At least Murray admits there is no way of beating GGG without a baseball bat, unlike others who just dodge the question.
Murray knows he is simply not in the same league as GGG.

He really should be removed as the mandatory if he's not going to take the fight.

He can lock 160lbs down, a division that has more historical lustre.

    Martinez can't hide forever.

    Cant blame him.

He knows that a fight with Golovkin wont be good for his health.

Hopefully Martinez has more guts and we get to see the passing of the torch from him to Golovkin.

If I was Murray I would of refused too.

Don't want my precious career to end in a bloody mess face down in Monte Carlo ***** street.

Golovkin needs to step up his level of competition and fight a ranked middleweight.

Just kidding, I was trying to see what it feels like to sound ******ed.

Sadly that's what the haters come up with though to dismiss his talent.

That makes absolute sense. He wouldn't be the first British boxer to go for an easier option.Already proved his bravery when he went to Argentina.Doesnt have to be a kamikaze pilot.I don't think Martinez will tackle Golovkin either.I don't think Golovkin wants to go up,but he may have to.His own division isn't packed with contenders.Or fighters queuing up for him.

Can't blame Murray, he's taken on a few hard fights recently probably good for him to get back to winning ways (on official score cards anyway) instead of taking an L against golovkin and minimising his earning potential. Murrays a very good fighter but his style is made for golovkin. When asked how do you beat golovkin he replied 'take a baseball bat in the ring'
