Ali's defense over rated, but power under rated?

I meant it more regarding handspeed, however on some occasions I found Sanders' footspeed pretty impressive 4 a man of his w8.

Patterson did have 1 foot longer than d other but remember that he is 2:1 over Johanson.

.. and Patterson did not get KOd by Cooper.
Guess who was just going 2b?
    got it?

I thought Bugner,Ellis, Foster, and Patterson had decent jabs, don't think they did too well.

Nobody's game is perfect and everyone has holes/makes mistakes/gets hit on occasion. It happens. Law of probability is if you fight all the best fighters of an era or even two eras, and they are throwing a lot of punches at you,you are going to get whacked hard here and there. My question is, which ATG heavyweight champion(s) had better defense than Ali? Most all of them got caught well here and there if they fought the best in the division.

I don't suppose too many guys would mind getting KD'd by Cooper if they knew they could get up and stop him within the next 3 minutes.:hi:

Henry Cooper could take your head off with his left hook. Ali was clowning around going backwards with his hands down and basically Ali gave him a free shot.

I was taught as a kid it is fundamental to both defence and attack ,and the first punch that should be mastered.
Mastery of it has taken otherwise limited fighters a hell of a long way.

Thanks. Review of the film / tape is the key. Many casual sports fans of boxing think Ali was nearly untouchable. This is because the media doing the reporting will only show a few clips. The average fan who doesn't watch all the films will formulate their opinion based on limited samples.

For the Ali fans out there, I think the best book on him is Facing Ali.

I've seen every Ali fight that is available. I think most true boxing nuts have. Like I said, he wasn't perfect and got hit very well on occasion. But I still say his D was pretty darn good given how often he fought and the high caliber of fighters he fought. It wasn't until the forced 3-4 year layoff that he started getting hit more solidly more often, and even then, he adapted fairly well by using more guard than he had prior to his legs slipping. And yes, having a great chin and ability to absorb body punishment helped too.

It's the era I grew into adult- hood in ,anyone who followed boxing watched his fights.
I watched him in a couple of exhibitions , just after he had beaten Foreman.
In one of which , he put the British Champion ,John L Gardner in his place with a rapid flurry.

His defence was a good or better than any heavyweight champion of which we have decent quality film , as such it can't be classified "overated ",imo

stop[ him due 2 cuts due 2 torn glove which is in particular a glove with its padding removed

and against a serial cutter/bleeder like that.

Whom had a shaky chin on top of all.

    Some achievement that would be.

I'm sorry frankenfrank, but this laughable, stupid, mythical war you're attempting to justify has to be THE MOST STUPID INSIGHT into a matchup I have ever heard in my entire life!!!!!

These are two of the reasons I actually give Wlad a half decent shot against Ali.. more then I am sure most.

Liston and Terrel, both excellent jabbers, certainly debunk the Ali struggled with good jabs theory
