I'd pick Ali, but this would be a tough fight. As long as Marciano is standing, he'd be a threat.

I have seen it multiple times. Notice "Dinged" is in quotations because I was referring to a comment from a previous poster who used dinged as a description of the shot. Clay was ROCKED

I think Ali wins this one. I do believe Marciano could potentially be a very tough fight though. Marciano to me is very similar to Chuvalo just with more crunching power and not quite as good punch resistance though the Rock had great punch resistance as well. I think a fight between Ali and Marciano would be kinda like the Ali vs Chuvalo fights. It wouldn't surprise me to see Marciano get Ali in some trouble at certain points in the fight but I think Ali would be able to use his great recovery skills to get out of these bad situations. I see it either being Ali winning a one sided decision with Marciano only getting a few rounds but the few that went in his favor would be decisive rounds or Ali stopping Marciano late. I also wouldn't be surprise to see Ali carry the first ten rounds and Marciano wearing him down and the last five rounds being life or death rounds for Ali though I'd expect Ali to survive and even pull out some of those rounds with his great courage and flurries of punches. Would be a great fight to watch.

Marciano had a very high work rate...he had a "kill or be killed" attitude...along with his power...chin...stamina...Rocky gave everything he had every second he was in the ring...
Ali would have had to fight 3 minutes of every round...he never did that...no waving to the crowd...no psych job on Marciano...you don't beat a guy like The Rock for 15 rounds with a jab...this is my all time dream fight...Marciano wins...

Very good assessment. Marciano would be bleeding horribly by the end.

The time between rounds was one minute and 6 seconds as verified by the audio recording of the bout. This is the most overblown myth of the modern era.

That aside, Cooper fought a green Clay, not a prime Ali. Prime Ali displayed the greatest championship chin in the division, withstanding the bombs of Liston, Frazier, Foster, Foreman, Lyle and Shavers among many other top quality opponents.

I agree!..The way people reach with the Cooper fight is ridiculous!..Everybody forgets the punishment he took from Foreman without goin down.

Dundee may have used smelling salts to wake him up though. Clay was in a bad way after the knockdown, despite getting up and making it to his corner.

At any rate, Ali demonstrated remarkable durability throughout his career and I can't say I've ever seen him hurt like that again, even against Frazier.

That said, I think Marciano is still giving him hell. Rocky had an underrated left hook (the quick double combination that KOs Matthews comes to mind) and all joking aside, was great at cutting off the ring and using feints to set up his punches.

Rocky could cut and suffered a bad injury from a Charles elbow, but he wasn't a Quarry or Cooper level bleeder. I think this goes a brutal 15 rounds, and regardless of outcome, both men are probably going to the hospital.

People keep referring back to Cooper and Jones but really they have no relevance at all. In Ali's next fight after Cooper he outboxed and actually out punched Liston. He was right on the button in this fight defensively and offensively, because he knew he had to be.
He'd be the same with Marciano bring his "A" game and be too fast and too elusive for The Rock.

Let's see, in the first round he land a couple monstrous hooks, three or fourbig right and a huge uppercut... In round two, a gigantic right hand at 2:30, another big right at 1:30, some clubbing lefts... In round three, nice right at 2:20, a brutal combo of lefts and rights at :57. Big right at :14. Round four, Foreman tiring, lands two big rights... that's enough for me.

So, yes, Foreman did land some big shots to head but Ali's timing, speed and holding behind the head wore down George... which brings up a couple questions... If Foreman, at 6-4 with an 82" reach couldn't consistently find Ali's chin, how in the hell is Marciano at 5-10 with a paltry 67" reach going to get in the same zip code. And, was Marciano ever hit as hard as Foreman jacked Ali in Round 3?

Also, regarding Shavers, Earnie hit Ali a lot of times with the right. The fact that an old ass Ali only went down once is the truest test of his chin.

Because Cooper and Jones have more physically and stylistically in common with Marciano than Liston.

Ali's style and ablites were better served at frustrating big jabbers like Liston and Terrell than pressuring fighters.

Well said!!..Its a well known fact that Foreman was havin his way with Ali's head and body until he ran out of gas. What Ali did that night was nothing short of miraculous!!.And I love your point about Earnie.:good:good

I understand that but really I think it all boils down to Ali. If he's switched on and on top of his game which you would expect him to be against a fighter of the calibre of Marcianio then he wins.
Having said that I think Rocky has his moments I'm a big fan and have no problem with the opinion that he prevails here.

I don't tihnk Shavers ever knocked Ali down. I think he rocked him and knocked him back in the last round, but no knockdown I believe.
